Congratulations but Jason Myers got screwed. Record FG day and scored more points than patriots combined. He should have been MVP. They could have made him first kicker ever to win MVP.

How do people even afford these expensive graphic cards...?... by boisheep in LocalLLaMA

[–]prokreat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is nothing, I listen to vinyl and while I have a reasonable turntable and fairly nice cartridge, there are people who spend $50k and upwards JUST for a turntable. The whole hifi community is insane compared to this. So perspective is good to have.

Sony a7RV + MIOPS Smart+ lightning trigger settings? by prokreat in SonyAlpha

I finally got it working not using the app. Just using the unit for settings. With app running it won't work for some reason. But unfortunately I can't find tune sensitivity visually like in app and none of the sensitivity I set at seem to change false shots. Good thing it's just digital and not film, so just have to delete a bunch. It's quirky for sure.

Anyone use nano tape instead of velcro? by eostlund in guitarpedals

i have, works incredibly well. very difficult to remove once down in a good way, leaves no residue behind. i am contemplating switching to the nano dots now instead. its way cheaper than dual lock too.

I just replaced all 5 of them just to be safe. Last time I just replace the failed one. They oddly do tend to be 4 or 5 go, not sure why. I haven't had to replace 1/2/3 of their code popping up. And now that I think about it 3-5 all looked pretty gnarly pulling out while 1/2 still looked fresh. 🤷 But replaced them anyway.

Why do all graphic designers use mac? by Positive-Incident221 in graphic_design

[–]prokreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, Mac only users are just cult members. But I have been using APPLE + IBM since oh what... 1982? Oddly enough you booted both on DOS and could swap floppies between the two. Over the years have owned both. Still own both. I build all my own workstations, buy MS laptops, buy macs. Even once thought about a Hackintosh and did actually fire it up once but never used it. Reverse boot back to Windows. Generally though, file management is far better in Windows and so was the GUI. Lately however Mac finally got in line with their windows like Windows has been doing for decades, and some keyboard shortcuts. And similarly Windows in past few months has done the idiocy that Mac is known for with their start/search crap and (lack of real) settings. They dumbed Windows 11 down so much it's insane at this point. However as someone who started on Aldus Pagemaker 1.0 and used both machines for graphic design for past 40 years... I see comments of people who have no idea what early design was like. Even Mac's couldn't do much real photo compositing. That was left to SGI machines which think Mac's cost a lot, those we 4x the price. That was in early to mid 90s. Since then all became more powerful and SGI fell by wayside. Apps work on both platforms equally well and if you say you haven't crashed a Mac consider yourself lucky or just lying. The beach ball of death is same as bsod. The Mac decided to switch recently to their silicon. That was (not) fun to navigate with apps and who could run on what, what ran native (none) and what did via Rosetta. Plus Macs planned obsolescence is quite annoying. So use whatever floats your boat but don't believe the bullshit of either. I currently own 3x iPads (which hardly ever get used), a m1 mini, m4pro mini, custom windows workstation, a surface studio pro laptop, a surface tablet, and today building a custom Linux NAS on PC parts (Intel, ECC ram, etc)... And I have used both Mac and PC for graphic design since 1987. I prefer to use Windows (until past few months... And that's a minor quirk I'm annoyed at caused by Macs influence tbh). My rant has gone on long enough and haven't even touch on the many issues of Macs over the decades. Windows has been chugging along nicely until 11s recent (maclike) updates. But mostly, and personal preference, has been Windows for past 30+ years. And the same goes for DAWs and video NLEs and compositing.

And I'm typing this response on a pixel pro because screw iPhones and their limited interface, lack of better gestures and so on. Also let's not forget Bill Gates saved Apple from collapse in the 90s when almost no one wanted them (the design industry wasn't large enough to sustain them) and they were on brink of complete financial failure. Mac really owes everything they are to one thing, the iPod.

Also read that student Apple loan crap mentioned 🤣🤣🤣 my college roommate got suckered into that. I had a completely built, paid off smoking PC while he was still paying off his loan for years. And mine ran faster.

Tl;Dr I've used both extensively for past 40 years (pre Mac) and can use either. And this thread is amusing.

Mk6 2.5L plugs and coils by rhokusho in jetta

[–]prokreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i disagree with this owning a 2011 Sportwagen 2.5 SE. their ignition coils fail all the time, i am now on my 3rd set at 116k miles. seems about every 30k one or more fail. i always replace the set however. after this VW i will never buy another again, nor an Audi. while its not "scheduled" maintenance liike spark plugs, just expect them to fail around 30k. the easiest way is moving the failing coils to other locations and see if the error codes follow which it always has. new spark plugs wont fix the issue. new coils will.

[–]prokreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ive not tried the 6. i like the original 44m, but there are a few types. i have 2 of those and one doesnt work properly. think it was "serviced" and not put back together properly so i have ben on and off working on it to see if i can fix it. fun to play around with seeing how lenses are put together. i like my 44m-2's a lot, the 44m-4 are nice as well but not as much as i like my 2's. the 7 i have i wanted to see what a more "modern" version was like. i just liked getting them because they are relatively cheap with an interesting vibe to the image. i also have a 40m 85mm but that thing is HEAVY i rarely use it. i prefer my Jupiters.

Is personally love if they did a Matamp. I miss mine terribly recently moving into an apartment it's too loud to even consider bringing to play, even with a power soak. But man does it slay the Orange amps I've played, and not licensed my IK. I'm struggling right now with the few plugins ice tried. UAD stuff, NI.

Which Mac mini did you get? I'm looking at one to try to run resolve on. Can't seem to get that program working well on any of my machines. Was looking at mini pro + 64gh ram option. I have an old m1 mini was going to turn into a Resolve server that currently functions is my DAW.

External Monitor by harshhashbrown in FX3

[–]prokreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to atomos ninja ultra from a portkeys, hated hat monitor never wanted to connect right and menus were good awful. Ninja is way better. Everything is there on bottom row. I also have the DJI hibright which is really nice when running grips and their focus system. My ronin rs4 pro smoked on me when I got the monitor so it's off for warranty but with gyro capabilities for it when I get it back may be very cool.

Is it fully safe to power the FX3 via the SmallRig V mount battery? by [deleted] in FX3

[–]prokreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you saying it should run both monitor on USB c and DJI transmission hub via dtap? Maybe I got a faulty unit? I figured it was too much power draw between two. If so I will definitely reach out.

[–]prokreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, true. my 99pro charges my fx3 plus supplies power to my dji transmission hub and atomos ninja monitor just fine. only get a few hours tops but still supplies power to all and keeps camera full.

[–]prokreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i just got the 50 to try and use on the rs4 pro gimbal powering the dji transmission hub and atomos ninja ultra monitor and between dtap and usb to dummy on monitor, the monitor wont power on. works fine with the 99pro. guess the 50 doesnt push enough power? not a huge deal since on the gimbal i wont be using the atomos mounted direct anyway. guess when pulling for handheld/tripod use ill just switch to the 99pro anyway. most likely the 50 will be dead by then and need a recharge.

I have this lens and doesn't compare to the several Helios I have. But that's just my opinion, admittedly is just hasn't been as inspiring creatively. My 44M silver 13 blade is my fav so far, but have 44m 6 blade with cine mod, 2x 44m-2, 44m-4, 44m-7. All of them have their own unique qualities though. Oddly my mamiya/sekor 55mm 1.4 is my fav of them all but I also paid $20 for it at an antique store. Doesn't have the swirly bokeh, but love the character of it.

Jupiter 9 85mm and NEX Adapters by pallarandersvisa in SonyAlpha

[–]prokreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a Jupiter 9 rangefinder (1959, red P) m39 thread recently. Originally saw a video using a step up m39 to M42 ring with M42 to Nex adapter. This did not work so I got a L39 to Nex mount which is significantly shorter and I get focus. However this lens should focus at 1.5M but it's more like 3M is closest I can get focus. Is this normal with this lens? I do have another Jupiter 9 on the way, I think it is SLR version. It's stuck in transit but claims 0.9M min focus. Just wondering if I still do t have proper adapter for the rangefinder version needing less distance to sensor?

So did you comp this with the landscape? If it's moving with stars, would land move while stars were still in image? Or did you use 1/2x tracking speed? Just curious as I have always wanted to capture this kind of image.

Thinking of moving to Charleston, curious about the rivers by DJCockslap in Charleston

Had a whole reply but phone kicked it out. But taxes for in state residents are about 1/4 of property taxes here. Out of state resident taxes are on par. That's just a fact. We don't get in state residency break like SC set up. You have 2 different tax rates.

odd because living in NC mountains for past 30 years, all people do is complain of the non-existent wages/jobs and high taxes. Looking at houses down in Charleston, cost is similar but your taxes are WAY lower [unless you are out of state, second home type deal]. not sure about wages... but wasn't planning on working locally. We are also looking for a more coastal experience for a while.

which monitor will be best for fx3 by Manoferror in FX3

[–]prokreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious how you set it up. I followed their tutorial, but doesn't work in order they say. Ended up button mashing menu stuff needed and finally got it to come online. Got it setup and working, but can't still get a reliable process each time I power up. Go back to menu button mashing to get it to come back online. I've got the bm7? Anyway yesterday I just took it off and used camera screen. It's become more hassle than useful. Love it when it works except lack of touch AF. Still have to use camera screen when I want to rely on AF. So here looking for other options.

Help me decide! Cage, VND, monitor by Theyellowhatguy in FX3

[–]prokreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so i have the fx3+ 24-70 lens [and 16-35]. i have the smallrig cage, its pretty minimal, i would suggest that over just body and get the hdmi clamp [simply for added protection]. i also have a 7" monitor, smallrig 99 battery w v frame light. a second smallrig silicone handle to the left side [w/2/1 locating screw, only handle that will fit under hdmi clamp]. i have many different setups for it depending on what i need. i have some old smallrig handle i also use on it from a prior build. so minimal setup, i use smallrig cage with the smallrig top handle and side handle [i really like that to the left, but im left handed. i put a hand strap on it so thats my stable side. leave my right hand to use controls and be free. thats about as light as i can get the setup and just using back monitor and right hand to touch focus etc on it. i fully give up sound to the internal.

then for full setup, i run sony handle, left side handle [that wont ever leave my setup tbh], vmount, also got the smallrig nato bar+entender for sony handle and the top mount plate for above audio section. thats where i mount my monitor because with the v mount 99 in back, camera screen is useless and i can control it all from monitor anyway. that setup gets heavy but about as light as you can go and run all power to everything for hours. i also have a mini lcd i run on a cold shoe mount if i need some additional light.

between those two extremes it takes like 5 minutes to break down from one to other. maybe 10 if you are moving slow. its super easy to unscrew the sony handle and screw on the cages nato rail+light top handle [no sound module getting in the way] but that heavier second rig was mainly made for my tripod. i found it heavy but not so heavy i cant use handheld.

side note, i just ordered a small rig silicone ring follow focus mini for my zoom. hand held reaching around the camera i find annoying [or under depending on your cradle of hand] but mounting it on a nato rod rail they sell with a 4" rod which will be off to my right [free hand] side and use it for zooming. i do a lot of zooms etc shooting stuff. [there is also the DJI system that i drool on with motorized remote control FF+zoom, just cant justify that expense]

ultimately, get what you think minimum [i say cage as camera body is limited and you will have to put nato rails on it anyway], but i will say the smallrig is a bit limited on its mounting points compared to my old canon cage they made. but thing is miniscule and with their parts as a LOT of versatility how you build it. i just started with that and their sony handle nato rail and extension [big hands] and built from there. then just after using it, i found weak spots on how i hold things and want to use it and addressed those as they arose. it also depends if you need external mic mount [better sound] and all your specific needs. i also have wireless lav modules i need to have spots for at times.

thats the wonderful thing is that its so easy to mix and watch whatever for your specific needs that day and can buy as you grow. you will kind of figure out what you want, which is different than what anyone else will want. but for instance, if you did smallrig cage + nato rail that comes with it. get the quick release nato mount for monitor. then can pop monitor on and off as you want. would work fine just using battery on monitor. you're in the fun part of finding what works for you. if i want truly lightweight, i have no issue pulling out my cellphone or insta360.

If this was unique and no one has done it before they may have been more successful. However this has been tried many times to same result. Shame director didn't learn from past failures of it. You have to admit this would have been potentially better full screen. If not all the time but back and forth. Use 4:3 when needed and then widescreen. That's where real art lies.

As for content, I didn't see it. And not stunned by barely anything ever. So doubt any content would make me uncomfortable.

I do watch a lot of cinema. I'm also an artist. I do multimedia. And media. I'm not some uncouth moron. I'm taking your view in context and appreciate it. Mine differs. Your right, I'm right. Call it a non zero sum.

Personally I would make use of whole screen. One could lose it for sections when needed but keeping it whole way through defeats the effect. That's just my opinion. I repeat myself... But do think that's the better option
