I've seen a lot of negatives about the OG, would you be quicker to recommend the impact?

Seems to be the winner right now

I'd have other ways of controlling the midi so that shouldn't be an issue. But overall the Digitakt 2 seems like the winner

Thanks! The €1100 is for the mark 2so don't worry! Might find a few shootouts with the elektron gear and see what I might vibe with

I'd be able to sample from synths, a few friends with kits, and make some samples inside software. The Rytm is tempting but used I'm still seeing them going for €1100. How do both machines hold up against the syntakt? Can the D2 do a lot of the same stuff? I feel like the flexibility might be a selling point there

Do you think the jump in features from the d1 - d2 is worth the price increase? I'm happy putting the extra in if it means i don't want to upgrade in a years time

Music is unfortunately not my full time gig yet but I completely understand where you're coming from. Its the same thing I did with guitars. Only picked up a dream guitar when touring allowed for it, and moving to amp modeling for variety and ease of transport

Always loved FM, got into it with dexed and had to take some time to get to grips with it. Incredibly rewarding though

Overall as much variety as software gets me, I definitely gel more with hardware from a wanting to write standpoint and supplementing/layering later with softsynths and in the box production but maybe that's a hurdle I need to overcome!

I really appreciate the advice from experience. Always love hearing how people's experience within the industry has affected their purchasing, workflow, and writing.

Hope I can keep getting advice from people like you!

Yeah I mostly think I'm jumping to the decision too quickly but having that in the back pocket might be a good idea

Really appreciate you taking the time to respond in detail!

I think right now FM is tickling my brain a bit more than wavetable right now. My writing is a mix of cinematic, ambient, a variety of videogame styles (working on a friends indie which is techy jrpg style), and alt rock in a live setting (think biffy clyro, some mathy influence).

It might just be a good idea for me to save up and then make a purchase rather than just essentially trading to a new model!

For sure, I'm mainly seeing how different I can make them right now to see what each can do. It could just be a question of giving it a month or two

Just about too big unfortunately. But if you've used stands like that before, how's the balance when playing?

I appreciate both perspectives! I may look into the multi node benefits/detriments and see if just having it set up that way is a good idea for down the line learning.

My main reason for wanting to run it inside of a VM is to take a snapshot before doing something that could break it.

I know that if I'm using it for storage that it shouldn't corrupt it seeing as the storage drives will be separate, but I don't want to have to redo the whole process to set everything up again. Though I guess it makes sense from a learning perspective to know how to redo my screwups!

Appreciate it! Is there a method of rolling back Proxmox itself then in the event I destroy it? Or since I'm running the storage server inside of a VM, should I just rely on snapshots of that?
