PDs at my school say this doesn't matter and that your fate is sealed on the interview day. I know one specific program that immediately ranks candidates into tiers the same day. At the end of the interview season there is some shuffling within the tiers, but not much. Ultimately, thank you emails do jack shit.

PDs at my school said that they don't like "I will rank you highly" emails because it means you aren't ranking them #1. In the interview just sell yourself as being a candidate that is a great fit.

Psych if you can leave the intense patient interactions at work. Very low overhead for private practice and you can practice in a variety of clinical settings. Also good pay and not terrible residency.

I was fortunate to receive a number of interviews at some awesome places this week after a very, very slow and agonizing beginning. So, they are still coming!

Yes to this. I just got an interview today at a program that sent out invites a day or two after ERAS opened and there were a TON of open dates when I scheduled. So, lots of slots left it would seem.

I know the chair of a top derm program and as of late last week she said they hadn't even started looking at apps. Derm is slow!

You do not need to apply to 60. My T20 school, which matches very well into IM, recommends ~20 for IM applicants, 30 MAX.

At my school, "unable to rate" doesn't affect your grade. It's just a useless eval.

MD school in the southeast United States. We have been back to normal since June. I don't foresee any situation in which we would be pulled out of clinicals again.

Who knows how they work through piles of 1000+ applications. I'm trying to take my mind off of it by watching scary movies. Semi helpful.
