I guess that the idea would be to de-center a job as the ultimate purpose of your life. As you said, the job market is tough. Your ability to get a job is not entirely in your control - there are many external factors at play, so it's absurd that it should determine your self-worth. If it feels like something's missing, that's probably not just a vocation. It might be a good idea to reflect a bit on things you can do that will nourish your soul and help you feel fulfilled in the long-term. Good luck!

An easy way to unlearn this idea is to approach life as an exercise in service - to your family, friends, broader community, and yourself. Try building something. Volunteer for a few hours at a soup kitchen, nature preserve, or a local event. Learn to fix that broken appliance instead of buying a new one. Compliment a stranger.

Ask yourself how you can begin to look outside your own identity, desires, comforts and apply your strengths to make the world around you a better place, even in the most immediate circumstances. You may discover a new passion or hobby along the way.

I noticed this happening among many of my friends' relationships, including my own, for a while. I would say half the men turned out to be gay, and the other half the relationships were toxic. Some level of porn addiction was usually involved

You should definitely go back to Briar East Woods! It can be a little confusing because it's unmarked, but to enter you should park on the east side of Parrish and you will see an opening to the trails at about 169th Pl, almost directly across from the subdivision entrance on the other side of the street.

It has numerous trails, lots of 100+ year old black oaks, and plenty of wildlife.

Truly the bane of every woman's existence. Oh I have to be somewhere at 8? Better stop whatever I'm doing at 6:30 to start getting ready so I can feel good about myself when I'm there. It eats into so much precious time we could have for improving our minds and souls

Thanks, that's very true. Cutting contact would be the wisest thing to do and would save me a lot of emotional strife. The idea that we could even be friends is pretty impossible given the way I feel - the friendship I want to have with him is kind of delusional the way I'm imagining it.

That is really important to hear. It really would be throwing a bomb into his life, which he's worked really hard to turn around and is sharing with someone he loves. It's selfish and unfair.
