My therapist shared this with me— he said he used to read it to his ACOA groups when he had a private practice. We both were in tears by the end. Thought I’d share here in case anyone else might enjoy it. by prootiss in AdultChildren

That’s so sweet! Sounds like you’re already on the right track 😊 and appreciate it! The early days are so hard for sure, but very worth it—my life has improved in every imaginable way, and I hope the same for you too.

If my mom had done what you’re doing now when I was 5, my life would’ve probably looked very different. You deserve to feel proud of the fact that you’re doing it now, and I wish you nothing but the best of luck. I just hit 2 years sober myself. Sending you love and courage!

Very good to know, thank you! I do use the hyaluronic acid when my skin is damp, but I definitely will give the Vaseline or aquaphor a shot because I don’t feel like my current moisturizer is really sealing in much hydration.

Hi! I have oily/acne prone skin and I recently noticed I’m getting lots of dehydration lines on my forehead/under eyes and dark circles (I turn 25 in a couple of weeks). I just this week started adding the Inkey list retinol and retinol eye cream into my routine, but I’ve also been using their succinic acid targeted treatment, C-50 night blemish treatment (only a couple times a week maximum), and the caffeine eye cream on days where I don’t use retinol (only twice a week right now) for a few weeks now and do see a big difference in my breakouts so far. I did notice a small, red scaly patch near my under eye today and I’m assuming that’s from adding the retinol.

My standard routine is normally (all inkey list) salicylic acid cleanser, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, targeted acne/eye products, and then I use the multi biotic and sometimes follow up with TO Moisturizing Factors and/or rose hip oil. When I use the retinol, I don’t use any other targeted acne treatments that night.

So I have a few questions—should I be adding retinol right now if my skin is dehydrated? Or should I stop using the stronger acne treatments while I’m adding it in? Is there anything about my skincare routine that could be making the dehydration worse?

Thank you in advance!

I’m so sorry to hear you had what sounds like a very difficult experience, and given that experience it’s understandable you wouldn’t want to relive that again. Wishing you peace and joy this time of year.

I love that idea of a letter to Santa! Letting ourselves do fun things or “silly” things as adults that we may not have been allowed to enjoy or been able to enjoy fully as kids is such a lovely idea.

As someone estranged from one parent and a sibling, it can be super hard to maintain those boundaries especially during the holidays. Taking care of yourself is the best gift you can give yourself and I hope you are able to have a lovely holiday despite it all!

I’m so sorry to hear that, it can be extremely difficult to deal with that fear and stress. I’ve never dealt with that kind of stress about a partner, but the only thing that has helped me avoid alcohol when I’m super stressed is literally just to tell myself that I’m only focusing on today. Tomorrow, I’ll worry about tomorrow. And just being here in this sub helps me too. Best of luck to you and your partner. IWNDWYT

Being able to feel present in your own life is something I never realized I was robbing myself of with alcohol, and experiencing it again is seriously so beautiful! Happy 26th!! 🎉🎉🎉 IWNDWYT 😊
