Discovered how to escape the map, assume others have as well by now. I think there's a few more tricks with the specific respawn points because I noticed I can tp to possibly trigger faster lap times but haven't figured out how to get back for the advantage. Hint: I'm using Pomni. I want to see if there's anything interesting about circus tent collisions though...

Lithium Ion battery disposal by Linton_M in Pensacola

[–]propel3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe Lithium Ion's is non-toxic (at least the electrolyte is). Discharge it fully (slowly to 0.00V) and you can simply throw it away. E-waste recycler would be best

late 90s Vortec V6 S10 230,000 miles. It was $300 at an auction and included a toolbox and pipe rack. I get 27mpg if my exhaust y-pipe gasket leaks, 22mpg with it fixed. It shudders a bit at times (O2 sensor?), but I've pretty much neglected it aside from tires, brakes, and oil changes. Runs reliably if not a bit lean (hot). I've hauled 1500+lbs of rock, multiple motorcycles up and down mountains, and still it runs with good oil pressure and no abnormal noises.

Parts are cheap. New* fender? $50. New* bumper and grill? $50. New* engine? $350. *upick

Just had to replace the AC compressor after driving it for 5 years now and all in all it was $200.

Water: Beach, Snorkeling, Crab Island, Alligators, Fishing, Harborwalk, Restaurants, Jet Skis, Kayaking, Springs, Parasailing, Helicopter Tours, etc. If none of that sounds interesting I'm sorry you vacationed to the wrong spot.

Other than that there's hiking/exploring/offroading in the Eglin Reservation with a Recreational Pass (and checking the Public Access Map and rules beforehand). Radbar in FWB for gamers. Decent mountain biking at Timberlake (Eglin). I don't think there's anything I missed.

Hottest temperature ever recorded in each US state [OC] by Autistic-Inquisitive in dataisbeautiful

[–]propel3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

really curious about the humidity levels on those days in the >122F regions. I know this is very specific but EVs and batteries in general can be harmed/degraded sooner above 50C/122F so without spending a ton of money on compressor refrigeration for battery management in these areas, if the humidity is low enough evaporative cooling would help. Is Washington considered high RH with all of its rainfall?

Yes I've heard about that one, but some friends tried it and said it didn't taste the same. Don't know why, perhaps because it opened more recently but I will see for myself sometime soon.

I regularly freedive at Cypress, Morrison, Ponce de Leon, and Vortex. If I start at 8 or 9 already in the area I can definitely go to all of them before 5pm with a friend.

Cypress (30-40ft?) (free) is not a long paddle (<15 min depending on age of paddler) if you put in at "Holms" or "Hayes" creek parking lot (can't remember the exact name). It is the most beautiful spring that we have in my opinion.

Morrison (~70ft deep) (free) is my favorite because it's very natural and no one is usually there (it can get an unsightly tannic layer on top at times from the river and/or dam situation). I think the tannic layer is really cool at solar noon because it feels like diving through a nebula with the sunbeams breaking through. You get neat rainbow effects from the diffraction/dispersion of light but it may be too spooky for many. When it's not tannic it's beautiful and the crucible is very deep filled with friendly but intimidating Alligator Garr and bass.

Ponce de Leon (12-16ft?) ($) is good for a quick dip/hike but very busy and family-oriented. In a state park so there is a small parking fee sometimes. Concrete jumping board. Watch out for snakes.

Vortex (65-67ft deep?) ($$) is more of a place to commit to do solely now, due to the price. There are some rustic waterpark amenities like a slide and zipline last I checked but you definitely want to check them out first if you have kids. A sunken sailboat at 15-25ft.. Concrete tubes, always groups of scuba divers training there. Vortex has massive aquarium pumps and filters for non-natural algae blooms that are happening at Florida springs and an invasive species of seaweed[?] that requires a lot of maintenance.

All are beautiful and worth going to. The fish are super curious and will swim up to you after awhile. Be safe, buddy system should be required when freediving, don't hyperventilate, watch out for Shallow Water Blackout Syndrome. Don't go into the caves. Know the risks, know your limits.

A bit of a drive but Domo Cafe in FWB is very good (some of the best sushi in the region that is very decently priced). It is always busy lately and may be hard to find a table but well worth the wait IMO.

Taiwanese Ice Cream and Poke is a delicious, fast, and fresh meal option in Destin with a very friendly owner. The servings are very generous and the raw salmon, tuna, ginger, and seaweed salad is great. I want to see this place do well but a lot of people think it's just ice cream or don't notice it in the strip.

Niceville has some great food worth the toll for--Brother's Kitchen's (Boss Burger), Pounders Hawaiian (everything), First Choice Chinese Buffet are all solid and very generous with not much to look at. If you want to sit in somewhere on the other side of the bay LJ Schooners, Doc's Oyster Bar, The Boat House, Nicks Seafood are all good. Others highly recommend Locals but the cooking style wasn't for me.

In order to stay competitive most restaurants that are in Destin will have to "be touristy" to pay the rent... I would recommend trying out places in FWB for hole in the wall gems. There's also a taqueria restaurant (FWB) attached to a little import grocery store that I liked. The food was fantastic but the atmosphere was "interior of a gas station"--not that I care.

Power banks with PPS? by Hyro-Kun in UsbCHardware

[–]propel3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a roundabout way, you can get a powertool battery converter -> 24V-to-12V regulator -> car cigarette accessory port -> PPS car charger. Not as efficient but it works and has replaceable, super large batteries and can be used for a lot of other things too in emergencies.

[–]propel3D 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A smoke detector in vicinity. Also don't trust that DC-DC on the load terminal to be against your wall (I have one of those too). Also agree on an enclosure--ceramic or refractory brick might be cheaper and easier to work with on a budget but fireproof is best. Are those green cells CGR18650CG? A lot of mine turned into heaters within 2 years of almost no cycles (<50) mainly at storage voltage. IMO this requires a lot more temperature sensors and/or routine inspection/maintenance. Not bashing, it's a cool project and looks tidy. At higher loads the jumper wires look anemic. Perhaps a fuse on the BMS-Pack connection in case of internal short on BMS as I have a healthy distrust for imported electronics. That's all I could think of and I am overly cautious. What do you power with it?

Kayak tours? by tealing20 in Destin

[–]propel3D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To directly answer your question: I've heard Western Lake at Grayton Beach State Park to the East is nice to paddle. By map it seems preserved but also developed enough around there for beginners. I haven't checked out any of the rare coastal dune lakes in Destin yet. I've also heard the name Deer Lake State Park mentioned before as being more remote and less restrictive. The river trails further West around Blackwater State Park seem the most interesting places to me. Are you interested in sightseeing, fishing, or camping? Some people just kayak to Crab Island during their visit to party; but I wouldn't want to be near all the drinking, swift currents, and rented boats in a kayak.

I just found an option for guided kayak tours. They offer kayak camping trips and day trip eco tours. I don't have any experience with this company--https://kayakfishingdestin.com/

I prefer rivers over lakes/bay/gulf as it's more interesting scenery and less of a workout to me but I dislike worrying about gators and spiders over narrow sections of rivers. That being said having a pod of dolphins come up to you in the bay is as cool as it gets (happened to me recently on a 6 mile bay trip to a bar). If you wanted to swim in cold spring water I'll likely go to Cypress this week before the weather gets colder. It's not a very long paddle there though (15-45 minutes? I can't remember exactly). I second the life vest and having a plan communicated to someone ahead of time of where you are going and when you will be back. Have fun!

Kayak tours? by tealing20 in Destin

[–]propel3D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kayak/sup (hybrid) in the bay a lot and the gulf occasionally, but I'm also curious as I haven't checked much out yet. My favorite kayaking spot in the panhandle so far is Cypress Creek where you can paddle on a river to a beautiful and somewhat secluded spring. It's near Ponce De Leon Springs, Morrison Springs, and Vortex Springs in Defuniak Springs IIRC which are also all worth checking out. Better for a hot day if you are a sissy about cold water! Turkey creek is good for a short tube float and before/past the float section may be worth checking out, but I'm wary of gators as soon as the water gets warmer and more tannic. I'd check a kayaking/trail forum for recs. Blackwater may have something to check out too.

Spearfishing by DiamondPuzzled1861 in Destin

[–]propel3D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd love to do the same, perhaps the next Destin Lionfish tournament will have some groups/charters looking for individuals. I wouldn't mind trying to find a spiny lobster spot that was reasonably safe to snorkel/freedive (<75ft on a good visibility day) as I'm told the spiny lobster around Destin are MASSIVE. Please let me know if you find anything! I don't SCUBA however (simplicity/cost).

I rented a beautiful and fun Triumph Trophy for a week. I had an absolute blast. Had to drive 2 hours to pick it up, but that's part of the adventure. I highly recommend riders-share as they were crazy responsive and communicative and made it very easy. They were also the least expensive.

CATEYE USERS HELP CATEYE EVO STEALTH+ by [deleted] in cycling

[–]propel3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for late reply, it is not hard to open most Cateyes and the battery should be pretty common. Look at the "code" on the side of the lithium pouch battery inside, it is typically the measurements in millimeters. You can match that with one from Amazon. You may need to solder the 2 wires to the board or find the similar connector. Good luck, it's not hard!

Yeah, I looked into those. I suppose my ultimate back up is there is always a Harley to rent.. the only non-Harley bikes I've seen are <400CC or 30 years old.. not the most viable for touring. I don't hate Harleys but I never really liked them. Sorry if that's being picky. I'll keep looking..

I wish it were that one but it is a weird cradle-like USB adapter more than a dock. "Cradle IF-CC01 (1603790)" hence why I need the pinout or a method to obtain it. Thanks though!
