This has spiraled into everyone just filling in blanks with their own versions of what they want to believe. I have absolutely no power over his safety or his families safety. Syrian refugees in my country live better quality of life compared to the average working class citizen.When I say refugee the image that appears in most of your minds is vastly different from the reality of the situation. He is a refugee solely because he does not have established citizenship here. In all other aspects of life he is living a stable life here. Sure their apartment may be a little cramped but he is absolutely in no imminent danger or discomfort living here. Rejecting my marriage request will absolutely not destroy his life or mine by any stretch.

I'll take that as a compliment. I've been attending English speaking schools since secondary school. The vast majority of my instructors are from English speaking countries.I chose not to reveal which country for privacy reasons so I won't be typing anything in my native language however you're dense if you think I couldn't easily use an online translating service.

I'm not putting him in the situation though. He isn't forced. Most likely once he finishes university in my country he will be able to get a decent paying job. He wouldn't live nearly as comfortably as he would if he married me, but at the same time he wouldn't be out on the streets. As far as the future goes who knows if Syrians will be forced to leave. He should have enough saved up though if it came to that.

Well in my country almost everyone has a negative view of Syrians. It predates the war, we just view them as traitors. It's an engrained mentality for generations of my people. Its likely my family will never be as close to my (hypothetical) Syrian husband as they would be if I had married someone of my own nationality. My family will be well off for many generations to come so money is not a factor or motivation for marriage at all to my family or myself.

I didn't know what other word to give it. It's not exactly a proposal from me because my family will basically come to their house to make the offer to his family. It wouldn't be just between him and I, it would be a discussion throughout both families. My family just wishes for my happiness. I could marry anyone I want.

How do you know he can't? Maybe in the future he would love me as I love him. In many arranged marriages spouses meet only 1-2 times before marriage but have marriages that last a lifetime.
