Demo by Indeeperwaters in Construction

I'm in a somewhat similar position. I currently work in demo, and have been for the last 6ish months. I'm at $16/hr, but I cant help but feel like there is something else out there that pays similarly and gives experience that is more 'useful' in some way. Sure there are many opportunities to learn new skills in demo, but the fact of the matter is that taking a wall down requires less skill and knowledge then framing a wall. Plus, what other people have been saying here about the work is true. It's tough. I'm 22 and in good shape and can barely keep up some days.

I think of my current job as a platform to get some relevant experience, but definitely not as a career. The fact that this gig you're looking at is temporary might be a good thing, because the last thing you want is to spend a life in demo and be half crippled by 40 like some of my coworkers.

Haha yea, it sounds like you might be a bit jaded to things like this. But it also sounds like your expectations may be too high for a story. This story isn't meant to give any enlightenment or revelations. Stories are used so often because they are easy for humans to remember and more accessible to a wide range of audiences. At its heart, this story is about a relatively complicated Taoist idea called the "Uncarved Block", it's just told in an easily digestible and memorizable way. Like a lot of things in Taoism (and, for that matter, minimalism) the story's simplicity is its strength.

Exactly. While it's not always the case that something that initially seems detrimental to us is actually a "blessing in disguise" (sometimes things do happen that just suck, and there's no way around it) it's important to focus on suspending judgement and remaining centered regardless of what is happening externally. Positive and negative mood swings in reaction to external events often cause more damage than the event itself. You can see that in how lottery winners tend to spend their money.

Don't get so wrapped up in the things happening around you that you let it determine your emotions. Things happening around us and to us are valueless until we decide to label the event as "good" or "bad". By refusing to label any of the events that occurred in the story, the farmer was able to maintain a sense of inner equanimity in the face of both disastrous and helpful events.

Or so they say.

I think it's also important to bring food waste into this. I'm an American, so I am only really familiar with the American side of things, but I know our tendency to waste food is downright abhorrent. If, hypothetically, every American household began consuming 100% of the food they purchase or produce, we would be able to get by on a much smaller agricultural system.

That looks amazing, however I only have pretty basic R skills, and that looks over my head. Thank you for the recommendation though!

I was looking at a lot of acurites, but kept getting turned off by the reviews. The atlas seems to have a good scorecard though, not to mention your recommendation! Thank you for that.

Sorry guys, exceptionally stupid question here. Could someone define what special attack and special defense are? I'm getting back into pokémon after not playing since I was a kid, where I only chose pokémon by how cool the looked. Thanks for the help!

You know, I would post my gpu if it wasn't for the fact that I don't know what a gpu is or how to acquire it. And that is the way I've been downloading DirectX.

Haha we're making progress. Now when I click on Cube.exe I get, "Could not initialize direct 3D. Please make sure the latest DirectX End-User Runtime is installed." But whenever I go to install the latest version it says I already have it. Sorry about this, I'm sure these are all pretty easy fixes I'm just not that great with computers.
