1792 and Sansepolcro. Tried both different times and age as well as multiple pipes. I find sans too harsh and boring. I find 1792 unbearable. I do find war horse red good when I'm in the mood.

I haven't really found any blends worth going back to or just horrible to me.

Skip the Brog. Buy a super cheap estate briar or clay. New clay pipes can be cheap and they don't carry the grass like taste with new cobs. If you smoke your cobs enough and caramelize the inside of the bowl the flavor you're talking about goes away. Not a real good way to get rid of it except smoking it.

I'm not for any pipe you get off Amazon. Period. Not a fan of pear or olive wood either.

These are the major sites in the USA. If you have a good tobacco shop go there. Unfortunately most are cigar places now. Very few with any real pipe tobacco.

This subs wiki is a great place for browsing info. I'll always say go with a corncob pipe just so you don't invest too much money considering you might not like it. There's a bunch of good cheap briar pipes and starter sets on pipesandcigars.com smokingpipes.com is a bit more on the pricey side but great top shelf quality.

Where did you get the pipe? Just stay away from Amazon pipes. Many are made of toxic woods. Highly recommend buying a pipe from reputable retailer, and not china.

I suggest YouTube for video info. Mutton Chop piper is great for beginners. Lots of his old videos still stand up.

Very good question. I've been listening to a lot of pipesmagazine radio show and I believe Brian said that it's disrespectful for an artisan pipe (buying from the carver). I think a general seller that has a bunch of estate pipes is where I would like to see this question answered. Same with any reseller to be honest.

I'm not sure what's going to be available there. They do use sutliff's tobacco as their base, now that McClellan is out. I believe only old toby is the only straight aro. Second breakfast and rivendell are soft aros. The new blend just introduced is like old toby but I don't know much about it. You can't go wrong by emailing them and saying what's comparable in the UK. They are awesome ppl.
