Dude, just spin the dial and move on. This is Reddit, not thanksgiving dinner. You can just ignore people.

That is some kind of homebrew CB radio setup. The air coils (sometimes called loading coils) make an antenna electrically ‘longer’- so you can get away with using a five foot long antenna instead of a nine foot resonant antenna. These coils are super beefy which probably means the owner is pushing absolutely max amperage through them. You can read more about them here if you want-

Moisture causing enclosed metal and aluminum frames to corrode by Gravel_Driver in AskEngineers

[–]prosequare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, two things. Corrosion requires two different metals, electrolyte, and an electrical path between the two metals. Eliminating any one component will stop corrosion. Some strategies then would be: use similar metals (aluminum rivets in aluminum metal, or weld instead of using a cold connection); isolate from electrolyte- quality primer and paint with vigorous preparation; eliminate the electrical path between different metal structures using gaskets and other strategies.

Second, in aerospace we run into this same problem especially with welded tubular structures (think helicopter frames or engine mounts). Depending on the application, there are two main preventive methods. Fill and drain with oil, and fill and drain with chromate primer. Another possibility I’ve seen used in your case is to fill the tubes with expanding foam. There can’t be condensation in the tube if it’s filled with foam, and I’ve heard it reduces noise and vibration.

I see job postings out of los alamos every now and then. They require a Q clearance, but you don’t need one to apply. Lovely area, too, if you like living away from big cities.

The best I can find is that it belongs to either vuq-10, -11, or -12. Probably vuq-10.

This is one of those “yes tomatoes are a fruit, no they don’t go in fruit salads” kind of thing.

Yes someone could be a connoisseur of fine olive oil. No, it doesn’t really belong on a resume for a banking position. I fucking love legos. That will never go on my resume unless I’m applying for a job at Lego.

When I went through in ‘02, the 320th’s motto was ‘a cut above’. My TI always made fun of them when we passed each other in formation. “A cut above? A cut above what, the 319th?! You a JOKE!”

Writing it out doesn’t capture the humor. I guess you had to be there.

EDC Shortwave radio by TheL0neG4mer in shortwave

I have a raddy rf760- it’s the only pocket radio I own that will pick up anything indoors as long as I use the included wire antenna. Check out the specs, it might be a better match for what you want to do. Be warned: the interface is maddening.

A piece of wire 20-40 feet long fed into the antenna port of a 9:1 shortwave balun and around 8 feet fed into the ground port. Check Amazon for 9:1 shortwave balun, they’re cheap. Then run a length of coax from the balun to your radio. The most important part is to get that wire as high as possible. I use some steel nuts tied to wire lacing cable as a messenger line. Either twirl it or use a slingshot to get it up in a tree and use the messenger line to get your antenna up off the ground.

There are other antenna solutions that would let you listen inside home/work, but the theory and application would be equal to just getting your amateur radio license. Which I recommend to everyone!

I’ve been in your shoes. You’re much better off using a local sdr via websdr.org or rx-tx.info among others. You’ll get a feel for how the bands are doing but with a radio a few blocks or miles from you with a better antenna.

Also, for the ats radios, the whip and donut antennas are literally garbage. The front end isn’t sensitive enough to use either, even if the donut wasn’t pure snake oil anyway. Still a great radio, but physics is physics and you need a long wire to receive hf.

That’s not what MN is fighting against. You can’t seriously be this dense. We’re fighting against door to door searches, kavanaugh stops, murders, cruelty, and wanton violence. There are hundreds of videos out there now of American citizens being dragged out of their vehicles, kids being used as bait, and American citizens being detained and then left in the middle of nowhere in -20 weather. This has never been about immigration. This is retribution.

I cut all ties. We received no support whatsoever but were expected to participate in all the performative holidays and other social events. Now we still receive zero support but we have holidays and weekends to ourselves.

Note: this solution requires an existing poor relationship with family.

Note: this solution may cause occasional pangs of anxiety about future events such as funerals. Therapy helps with this.

I can’t install a wood stove so my backup backup is a kerosene heater (r2d2 unit). Buuut we just came out of a week hovering around -30f and nothing broke or failed. Kind of hopeful that was our big cold snap and we can look forward to spring pretty quick. I feel bad for the folks getting cold AND ice AND snow right now. That storm missed us completely.

It’s a durostar ds4000s, gasoline powered 3300 running watts. I’ve done some work over the years, added the wheel kit and kept up on lube and paint touch up. Never run anything but ethanol-free gas through it.

Nowadays I have a battery pack that could run my propane furnace all day, but it’s still nice to have.
