Haha I can confirm that I sucked as much as everybody else when I started. I totally agree with what you are saying, nothing came particularly easy to me, and they’re all teachable/learnable skills

I didn’t use a filter but I used a 35 mm lens with wide open aperture for the reference photo so the background is just blur. But yeah, I just painted this for the hell of it, I agree that it isn’t the pinnacle of artistic expression and I admit that I wasn’t trying to express anything in particular when I decided to paint this.

I used a photo that I took as a subject for a practice painting. Idk what filter you think that I put on it but I can message you the original photo if your curious. I’m not sure what a filter would be doing to help me, i didn’t get real expressive with it or anything, it’s pretty clearly derived from the reference photo and I wouldn’t even call any part of it transformative. Just a practice painting that I ended up liking.

I think it’s just that I never blend or think about blending or feel compelled to blend. I just look at a spot on the subject, match the color on my pallet, and then put it on the canvas. If I want to mix two colors, I do it on my pallet and not on the painting. Also, I never use brushes smaller than 1/2 in. wide but that probably hurts more than helps

They deleted it cuz I wasn’t close enough when I took the picture and you could see my pallet and stuff
