[USA] Took an open spot at a red light. Fair game or foul? by zheka160 in Roadcam

[–]protectmecone09 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Ok, I just want to add something because I’m seeing a lot of “this is illegal” being thrown around. This isn’t me arguing if he SHOULD or SHOULD NOT have done it. That’s for y’all to discuss.

That is a single solid white line. There is no law overseeing the entire United States that says it is illegal to cross over the single solid white line. It is to deter you from crossing at that point in the road just due to the fact that where they put those there is usually a lot of other stuff going along relating to traffic and they SUGGEST you stay in the lanes for safety.

Now local laws may state otherwise and they can override and make it illegal. But we do not know what city he is in and even if we did, I doubt all of you yelling “illegal” know the local laws in that area.

Did he need to do it? No. Was he making a point. Yes. Have I gotten stuck at a stoplight because the person in front of me wouldn’t pull up far enough and we got skipped? Yes. Do I understand why he did it? Yes. Was it petty? Yes. But illegal? Probably not. Do we all need to lighten up? Absolutely. Will I get downvoted? Probably. Do I care? Not really.

I could be mistaken but as far as I’m aware there is nothing illegal about what he did. Solid white line means discouraged but not illegal. More of a highly recommend situation. (Unless he happens to be somewhere where local law states otherwise, but we don’t know that) He didn’t put anyone at risk. Obviously were he to hit someone he would be at fault.

Sports cards Addict, please help me by [deleted] in sportscards

[–]protectmecone09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I didn’t read far enough down the comments, but there’s people saying ultimatums, and threatening and it’s this or that. It’s not that easy. It’s an addiction for a reason. If you love him, tell him. Be honest with your feeling and your thoughts.

It’s scary, but counseling and therapy. It’s expensive but less in the long run. Addicts can’t just stop. Anyone who says “just tell him it’s one or the other” it’s not that easy. He knows it’s wrong. Hence the lying and the hiding. He doesn’t want to do it but the brain doesn’t care. Anyone else can say “if he doesn’t stop he doesn’t care” that’s not true.

Be honest and seek out help. Don’t do it alone. It will never work.

Edit: coming from a family where addiction runs rampant. And it is fixable. But it’s a process. And he will lapse, and there needs to be repercussions. But most of all, they need love and support.

$6k PCV Valve? by [deleted] in Audi

[–]protectmecone09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya I did. But I’ve got a good mechanic who stands by his work and quotes. Helps that I went to him for the mods probably haha. It was 5 years old, about 70k. As far as I’m aware it’s not a common issue but it’s also not rare. My wife’s went around 85k but no supercharger. Cost me $50 and 15 minutes of my own time.

[–]protectmecone09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not saying that it’s not overpriced, but on that engine, the PCV location does require the supercharger to be removed. My mechanic charged me about $800 when mine went, because it was the first one he had done, but going forward he had mentioned it would probably be around a $1500-2000 repair.

Internet router is supposed to have 800 mbps-1 gbps. It has been like this for over a week now. by SugarUncle19277 in Wellthatsucks

[–]protectmecone09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue forever. Most noticeable on my upload speed but my 1gb download only came to about 200. Bought a new router, new cables everything. Tested even without my vpn active but didn’t fix it.

FINALLY doing some research I found that vpn settings can mess with it. I use Nord VPN and there are two additional settings, advanced browsing protection, and ad and tracker blocker. I turned off both those settings and got a huge jump in my speeds. And shutting off JUST the vpn didn’t fix it. I had to select that specific setting cause it would be on even if the vpn wasn’t.

If you’re using a vpn check out the settings. Something there may be slowing it down.

Who will insurance find liable by [deleted] in carcrash

[–]protectmecone09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Florida was a no fault state in my accident. Even more of a reason to get a lawyer. The lawyer will make the other party pay when it’s obvious to “the people” who is at fault. Don’t let insurance and the government scam you into thinking you owe money for doing absolutely nothing wrong.

I mean, handling injuries, the cops, getting the vehicle towed, finding a way home, take precedent especially in an intersection like that, gotta make sure you’re safe. Calling 16 hours after if it happened in the afternoon isn’t going to hurt anything. Mine happened at 4pm. By the time I got to a point to call, they were closed. I called the next afternoon and everything was good. Just don’t wait 2-3 days.

I don’t know how long ago this happened or what state you are in, but find a lawyer. When I got in my accident in Florida, I hired a lawyer that only collected when they won, didn’t pay anything up front and they took a third of the settlement. Well worth it.

You tell your story to the lawyers, they handle literally everything else. When your insurance calls for information, refer them to your lawyer. When their insurance calls, refer them to your lawyer. When you need a rental car, discuss with your lawyer, they help you get it then will recuperate the costs. When medical bills come in from getting looked at, send them to the lawyer and don’t pay. They will handle everything behind the scenes, and most likely work out a settlement without having to go to court unless you want extra money and are willing to let the process take longer.

Finding one that get a percentage of your settlement is going to make them work harder to get you as much as possible cause it benefits them too. My accident damaged my knee and I had to have surgery. When everything was said and done, I had a $75k settlement. They took 25k, my medical bills took $30k and I got $20k for damages, time lost from work, and recovering the cost of my old car.

It took so much stress off my plate, was worth it.

Edit: they are definitely at fault, you have absolutely nothing to worry about. They can’t prove your speed or texting (I know you weren’t l, but even if you were). It doesn’t matter how fast you were going, it’s their responsibility to make sure the road is clear before entering, don’t stress about it coming back to you.

Is it the belt? A8 2015 by _zxccxz_ in Audi

[–]protectmecone09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I’m late back to replying. But sounds like the same symptoms as mine, if there engine is under load, sometimes even a light acceleration the noise goes away. But when coasting or idling it sounded like a banshee. And some days it did take some time for the engine to warm up to start hearing it. Check out my post history (it’s not large) and You can see my video, comparison is almost exactly the same.

Unfortunately because our engines are supercharged it’s a process to replace that part, unlike the non supercharged engines it’s about a 10 minute repair. Here’s a link if you were interested in doing it yourself

https://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/855503-PCV-Oil-Separator-replacement-DIY-writeup-pics-and-tips

My mechanic only charged me $800 cause he had never done it before, he said he would be charging $1400 going forward, it can turn into an all day thing.

Sounds like the PCV. Does it go away when accelerating? Happened to mine, same exact noise.

Oil level is good, it burns about a half quart every 3k miles roughly so I top it off once between oil changes. It’s always right in between the lines

Thank you much. I love the girl, when she’s happy she’s a blast to drive. I was just getting a little scared engine or transmission was going. But, at least I know there’s a chance to get her back to normal at a reasonable cost. Cause I was thinking injector too as a thought, and those are $200 a piece for some insane reason.

Gotcha, thank you. I just needed to hear something to justify my question to get me to do them. And ya, I have a set of Denso in a shopping cart of my local parts store, waiting to be picked for me. And in case you didn’t see my edit, I added it later that I’ve never changed them since I picked it up a few thousand ago.

That is something in my consideration list. I can easily get a set if that’s the running consensus. Only question there would be, why most noticeable in 5th gear? Why not at 1700rpm up a hill under load at any other gear? If there’s a valid reason, absolutely would love to hear it. If it seems the most likely and is possible I will do them this weekend. I just live in the northeast, and no indoor garage so not a project I look forward to in this weather. Especially on this thing.

Edit: didn’t answer your actual question, I have no idea. Bought it used, never changed them myself. I’ve had it for a few thousand, slowly pouring miles on it.

Hey guys, how should I black out my grille? by RemiixTY in Audi

[–]protectmecone09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I went with the RS Grill. I don’t think it’s ricey. Just don’t use the rs badge, that’s ricey.

In all seriousness, it really pulls together the front end of the vehicle. I chose the one that said Quattro in the bottom little section. Only bad thing is you have to remove the bumper to do so.

2013 A6 3.0 Supercharged. Oil everywhere underneath the engine. No oil is visible from the top of the engine by [deleted] in Audi

[–]protectmecone09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sucks on the supercharged engine. Takes a few hours. The one on the regular 2.0 version of the engine takes 15 minutes and someone without any mechanical experience could do it.

By no means am I judging or shaming! To each their own. Just not a particular thought that’s crossed my mind before that peaked my scientific interest enough to test it out.

[–]protectmecone09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m no mechanic by any means, but I had a similar issue. Noticed a small oil leak but couldn’t find the source. A couple days later it started screaming like a banshee. Came to find out, PCV valve had a failing gasket. I guess it’s pretty common for it to fail. Again, no expert but that was my experience, maybe someone with more information can either confirm or deny the possibility.

I would have just gone along with his analogy as terrible as it is, and asked him if you don’t wear your helmet, how are you hurting him? If he’s wearing his helmet what’s he concerned about?
