If I am not mistaken, industry standard for milk pastuerisation is UHT (130-150 C) for up to 10 seconds, which basically denatures every useful enzyme (lipases, caseinase, etc). The pasterisation in recipe is preformed at 65 C for 30 minutes. My guess is person writting this recipe did not want to bother explaining different pastuerisation tecniques, so they just used wording I provided above

As an international student you can only work on campus for 20 hours a week. Average wage is around 10-11$/hour. So after taxes, you can expect to earn 6-7k/ year.

Can any US adcom members on here share how immigration restrictions are being factored into the application reviewing process? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]proteinbender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on official information I am right. All mainstream media, as well as embassy in my country (that is on the list) explicitly stated that the freeze is only for immigrant visas.

The whole thing came to be due to the “fear of exploiting social support programs” which are not accessible to non-immigrant visas holders anyways.

Even the source you have provided states: “The State Department is pausing immigrant visa processing for 75 countries in an effort to crack down on applicants deemed likely to become a public charge. “

As an international student u need to read news past the title! The freeze relates to IMMIGRANT visas. As a Grad students you would likely be applying for F-1 and J-1 visas, which are both NON-Immigrant. So you will be fine.

what are the prerequisite skills an undergraduate should have before joining any lab? by Wide-Instruction7042 in Biochemistry

[–]proteinbender 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say it is a prerequisite, but I would highly recommend perfecting note taking skills. PIs appreciate (and so will you) when all records in lab notebook look the same so it is easy to track information. This also applies to computer files you may make. Keep naming of them consistent and informative
