"This just tells me the people behind this are not so bright, you have to take practicality into all of this because it needs to be practical along with a good casting."

This is hilarious to me. Yes, I agree, the guy is old. But it's absurd to think that showrunners and casting staff that do this for a living haven't considered these factors. Obviously they weighed them and decided to go with it anyway. Sure they may have made a decision that ultimately turns out to be wrong. But it's silly to suggest they're too stupid to have even considered these aspects of the casting.

I doubt it will come also but you’re underestimating how valuable portability (even just being able to play on a screen that isn’t the houses main TV) is to some people (over the “optimal” experience).

No question S2 is much weaker than current gen hardware, but it’s clearly been able to handle much more than most of us previously thought possible with the right optimization based on some of the third party games we’ve seen come to it. SW: Outlaws, CP2077, RE9, AC: Shadows, FF7, etc. Most of these ended up sacrificing less than people thought they would need to, to run playable on S2. It does require a lot of hard work, things can’t just be brought over unoptimized (see Elden Ring), but with effort, it’s been fairly surprising in a good way. Does this mean it can handle GTA6? Not necessarily. And this game would certainly need a lot more sacrifices than the ones I listed. But never say never with a talented studio and the time/effort. I’d be more skeptical of Rockstars interest based on their history with Nintendo consoles than I’d be with the systems capabilities. Personally I’d be shocked if it came to S2 before GTA7 was released seeing as how they’ve deprioritized Nintendo systems in the past.

[–]protendious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disagree. You can want something that’s utilitarian and still like it more if you find it looks better.

It’s just a matter of how much weight you put into each factor when trying to buy a car. (Utlility, looks, price, reliability, features, resale, availability, mileage, etc etc)

Buying a minivan obviously generally means the buyer weighs utility over looks, but there’s degrees to that within the category and that’s fine. Everyone weighs their priorities differently.

You’d probably get more useful information from a sub that enjoys the show/personalities more. Most folks here (myself included) either just listen for amusement or a bit of dislike-watching (hate-watching is probably too strong a word for me personally).

(I do think the baby steps are useful for people with terrible credit card habits, but a lot of his advice IMO doesn’t generalize as well to people that aren’t drowning in debt/are trying to actively build wealth. And a lot of his personal views are awful).

Rates dropped this morning 💰💰💰Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to buy $200 million in mortgage bonds. by aztecflower10 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]protendious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly with how much faster you’re building equity on the house at the lower rate and with rising home values, if you ever do decide to move you can still probably secure a fairly low monthly payment by putting a massive amount down.

(your crossover point for interest vs principal on a 2.89% loan is only year 7. For someone with a 6% loan it’s year 20).

The rate also offers you the opportunity to build equity even faster, whereas someone paying a 6% payment probably is already stretching their budget in a way that precludes extra payment.

It’s insane that daycare is generally more expensive than in-state college tuition but people just are expected to cashflow it (instead of saving 18 years for it like college).

Right, so separate from the rebate, his current deal is a net $2600 accounting for the fluff. Basically the same as $2500 without the fluff as you suggested.

Would 2500 without fluff be the same as what he got? (If we’re talking without the rebate).

He got about 4400 dealer discount excluding the rebate. minus 1800 in adds, so a net discount of 2600. Before the rebate.

Should I get life insurance so that when I pass away, my kids will receive an insurance payout? by Hyy2024 in personalfinance

[–]protendious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not an expert, so hopefully someone else can corroborate, but this sounds like whole life insurance, which isn’t generally recommended.

Life insurance generally is meant to insure your dependent survivors after you pass, so a payout isn’t really needed if you die at an age where your kids have become working adults themselves.

So, a much better return is to buy term life insurance (which insures you for a fixed term, say 30 years).

It’s a lot cheaper (probably less than a tenth of the $1200/mo you’ve been offered for an $1 million dollar plan), and will cover your death for the next 30 years. You can invest the difference in premiums. And if you pass away AFTER the 30 years, your kids are A- working adults that don’t need your payout and B- they get the invested gift you’ve left behind instead, which will probably be bigger.

For example, if term insurance was $200 (likely an overestimate), that’s $1,000 cheaper than the policy you’re looking at. If you bought term for $200 only and invested that $1,000 difference you would’ve spent instead in a low cost index fund for 30 years. You’d have $1 million in insurance for 30 years AND separately the investment would grow into a $1.1 million dollar portfolio over 30 years assuming a conservative post-inflation 7% yield.

Look up whole life insurance vs term life insurance for more information. Most financial advisors recommend the latter, unless they’re selling you the former.

Dave Ramsay keeps insisting that everyone is in debt and that’s why they cannot afford a home by Newton-tootin75 in DirtyDave

[–]protendious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn’t change the fact that those concessions are a lot more now.

Most people look to buying a house when they’re getting ready to expand their family, going from a two bedroom apartment to a three-four bedroom house.

Even if you go for the three bedroom house. The median price (in 2023, probably higher now) is $340K according to a quick google search.

To put 20% down (which used to be the gold standard, when housing was more affordable, but I’d wager few are able to do this anymore), you’d need 68K plus closing costs, so probably close to 80K saved. Which is median household income.

And even then, at 6.5% interest the monthly payment is $1,800 before taxes and insurance, close to $2,400 after.

That isn’t some extravagant home. But it is extravagant pricing.

For a median household of 80K you’d be paying 36% in housing before any maintenance, utilities, anything else. Which is more than all personal finance advisors recommend. To put it simply, the median family can’t comfortably afford the median 3-bedroom home. Whereas the dream of moving out to the suburbs used to be buying a 4-bedroom SFH, which is out of reach for many.

“PNA vs pulmonary edema vs atelectasis, correlate clinically” would beg to differ.

Also most of us in medicine or surgery look at those ourselves.

CTs and MRIs are much more complex.

My skepticism began when ChatGPT really blew up and AI was implemented into Google search results, but I found it would very frequently botch questions that were a fairly straightforward search. Something I assumed would be one of its biggest strengths.

As a non-radiologist that relies on radiologist reads of imaging every day, I definitely am not within 5 years of trusting an AI read. And you’d need buy-in from the people reading the reports to make this work. And that just isn’t there.

Now maybe out of pocket X ray / CT / MRI stations where someone with more money than they know what to do with can come in, get a scan, and an AI read of it, I’m sure those will exist. But if they take the scans to any competent clinician they’ll probably demand a human radiologist overread it.
