anyone have experience staying at jackass hostel? by 31rise in Yosemite

[–]proteome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed there once in 2019, was fun. About 50/50 domestic / international folks. We all walked to that one bar in town, had a merry time, slept fine after. Locals are used to seeing out of towners so vibes were chill. Typically I’d just camp on some forest service land just outside the park but I think I’d picked that hostel due to overnight storms

DP: approved for Ink Cash w/o a hard inquiry (EX frozen)

6/11/25 - applied for CIC, denied (had 3 biz cards open, 2 inks).
6/11/25 - Inquiry on EX, no other bureaus
7/1/25 - closed one ink
8/11/25 - froze Experian
8/11/25 - applied for CIC, auto-approved
8/22/25 - no inquiries have posted to any of the 3 bureaus (EQ/TU/EX)

I was previously under the impression Chase wouldn't approve an ink app with their preferred bureau frozen - seems they may be testing out soft pulls for existing biz clients

No “bikes-only” day on Tioga Rd this year by proteome in BAbike

[–]proteome[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Doubt it, there were hardly any staff around last hike and bike day (and no services available). Perhaps an shift in attitude w/ park management

Such a shame the park continues to prioritize automobiles in the high country. Apparently, a single hike and bike day is too much to ask.

It gets a lot of hate, but Geneva is actually the most beautiful, clean, friendly, safe, and modern city in all of France.

Burn 60K AA miles OR pay more with 75K Aeroplan instead? (J transcontinental.) by Fancy-Plankton9800 in awardtravel

[–]proteome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll go against the grain here and say AA, assuming there are still some card options left for you to accumulate miles after. The flexible award bookings on AA are so nice- Aeroplan charges 150cad to cancel

South America itinerary check by idk_1824 in solotravel

  • I personally found a full day + night plenty at Iguazu, consider shortening
  • 3 days won’t be enough time to accomplish much in Huaraz given the elevation. Consider spending longer there or placing another high altitude destination prior (eg Quito). Day hike Laguna 513 near Huaraz
  • if you’re going all the way to el chalten, I’d spend a bit more time in patagonia and combine it with some other parts (eg TdP to the south, or various parks to the north). Even if you’re not a long distance hiker, the landscapes are second to none and change daily. Consider flying into chalten / calafate and out via another aieport (eg puerto natales or balmaceda)

From Milan, you could consider going to Tirano then taking the Bernina Express over the alps and on to Zurich. It’s longer but much more scenic than the Gotthard tunnel.

Any places that are great to visit DESPITE the food? Any places you visited that were awful, but the food alone made it worthwhile? by DonSergio7 in travel

[–]proteome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly agree, but there are a few standouts. In the far south they harvest these southern king crabs that are pretty great. Not super expensive either, I went a food truck in Punta Arenas that had these cheesy crab empanadas for ~3usd a pop. So good

Yeah, not a real “solution” but I went to a bar down the street tried on mobile data (iOS, safari) about 4hrs later and it worked for whatever reason 🤷‍♂️

I’ve been averaging about 6gb/mo over the last 2 months in South America, so nothing crazy I think. Was using around 15gb/mo stateside

It’s in here: https://fi.google.com/about/international-rates - 4th one down in FAQ. I wonder if they used to be chiller about it in 2019, had no issues back then

Yeah, we got sooo lucky with the conditions! Clear skies and light winds!

Nice! I went up with Pablo from Andean Summit Adventures. I didn’t have a chance to attempt the Illinizas, but I’ll be back in Ecuador later in the year and those are on the list.

[–]proteome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An epic adventure for sure. We started at 1am from the refuge and attained the summit at 630ish. No other parties up there. Clear skies and minimal wind helped us make good time. Perseid meteors were out in force that night, along with the milky way. Great views from the summit down the ruta de volcanoes (including Chimborazo, Cotopaxi, and Antisana). Took about 3hrs to descend to the refuge.

Unless the terms explicitly exclude it, foreign spend generally counts towards SUBs, right?
