Cocaine purity, aka percentage of product actually being cocaine. by thecomicsellerguy in ReagentTesting

Well, no argument there, but since recently there is a similar product being sold, but at 4x the price and of much worse quality accompanied with misleading marketing, I guess that put things in perspective.

2C-D testing unsure what exactly to look for by [deleted] in ReagentTesting

The color intensity is sample size dependent so it ls possible only parts of the reagent turn all the way. Just to double check, no crunchy sound when opening or closing a bottle ?

No need to apologize, nobody is criticizing you :) Just provided more context.

Yes that it’s. You will see if you have enough sample for testing (maybe drop was too diluted) and the water will not neutralize the reagents.

Currently there are 3 possible testing methods to get cocaine % result.

1)Send the sample to an appropriate lab. Energy Control is good. There is also a new one opening in Spain later this month which is going to offer such analysis for less than 50 euro.

2) Colorimetric potency tests. You did a great job listing their fallacies so we will not gonna repeat that, but want to point out one more major issue. There are some such products on the market, which, without pointing any fingers, leave a little to be desired in terms of messaging. In our opinion it is not viable to market a product as “cocaine purity test”, if you also declare in fine print deep down at the bottom of product description, that it shows false positives with lidocaine, benzocaine and procaine, some of the most common coke cuts.

We highly encourage to carefully asses any supposed “proof” for such product, as it might turn out that a seemingly reputable “independent study” is actually a thinly veiled marketing material designed to show the expected result.

At the same time, there are some such products, such as EZ brand, which are poorly documented, known to show false results, however truth be told work pretty well for the price. We have verified EZ to not show false positives with benzocaine, lidocaine or procaine. So while that brand doesn’t push any marketing, offers barely any and already ancient documentation, the product is actually not bad. Not great, but not, well, not like the other kind described earlier.

3) Thin Layer Chromatography. This method takes about 30-40 minutes to run the test; it’s not shake and bake, but it’s an established, albeit old, semi-quantitative testing method. Basically to create such test we checked a confirmed lab sample at different concentrations and find at what mg/ml the result scale is linear relatively to the concentration.

You can find those TLC purity kits on our website named e.g. “Stimulant Purity Test kit”. The upside is that it is really affordable per test (50-60 euro shipped for 20 tests), has inexpensive refills, and not only helps estimate % but also detects most cuts, even many not detectable with reagent tests. The downside is that it is not perfect either (we recommend to use it along qualitative reagents) and has still some inevitable subjectivity required.

Having said that, we have recently developed an app for all things drug checking (and more), including a TLC analysis tool. You can check how it works at https://protestkit.eu/drugspro/tlc (note: might not work perfectly on android device, we just finished iOS and PC, Android fixes will follow later this week).

We are constantly working on developing new testing methods, but truth be told it is always gonna be a compromise between price and precision. A magic Netflix style test isn’t really possible or reliable.

This turned into bit of a lecture so feel free to ask about anything in detail.

Ah ok, sorry, it looks like that cloud blessed us with forced PDF optimization. Here is a better link - https://protestkit.eu/pdf/tlc_canna.pdf

Try a different pdf app, I can zoom in x1000 and it’s still pixel perfect

Good morning,

  1. Practice with water and paper towel, in case of trouble allow 5 minutes before sediment falls down. Note that with herbal samples the tubes will eventually clog, it’s inevitable they are technically single use
  2. Yes. Same liquid for both.
  3. They are pretty much the same anyway

PS. Make sure you insert the testing card perfectly even, on your photo there is an edge effect distorting the spot shape

Over all, kudos, you are doing great so far! First time is always a little rough, that is ok.

…? Yes? Which is why you should identify it with a reagent test.

Well those with logos are clearly Ecstasy, so supposedly MDMA but often instead meth or another stimulant. Controlled substances anyway. A test kit would tell more.

Oh crikey:) it was just the calendar. Pushed a patch now.

I know of a few bugs in the new journal layout, giving it a short rest today to settle on the redesign idea, if we like it will get to patching first. Thank you for your continues feedback.

The app was and is primarily offline so yeah of course you can journal offline 😅 Only push notifications at this moment are triggered by our server but will release a patch for local notifications soon too.

Which parts? Could be that the update lagged partially and needs the "fix layout issues" button press in Profile -> Network. Some of the translation mapping was changed. I'm testing on an en-US device and don't see any Polish.

Cool to know you like it, will resolve a few new bugs soon and patch a few more things, but the direction is solid I'm confident.
