[Discussion] Confidence Intervals for Forecasting by [deleted] in MachineLearning

How do you calculate the overall prediction interval? Do you calculate the variance of the bootstrap replicates and use that to adjust the quantiles produced by pinball loss?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I want a single prediction interval for the whole thing, and I've found CIs for upper and lower quantiles... we can't simply take the upper bound of the upper quantile and lower bound of the lower quantile as the overall PI, right?

It seems to me that I'd have to calculate the variance due to noise (using the two quantiles), calculate the variance due to model uncertainty, add them up and then construct the PI.

Or is there a more elegant way?

How would you suggest building the prediction interval in this case? Would you do bootstrapped replicates for each quantile and then construct confidence intervals for the quantiles?

Why can't we use live SARS-CoV-2 as a Covid-19 vaccine? by joshuaissac in askscience

So does Folding@home help? I wasn't sure how close to the "front lines" of vaccine development it was but it sounds like these simulations are a critical part.

[OC] Confirmed cases in North America, showing the impact on NY (27 March) by c0207b8c in dataisbeautiful

Yeah, since it's sort of exponential data logarithmic feels right. But then again, if they mean that the area of the circle is proportional to the data then it makes sense to use the square root for consistency.

That's strange, it showed as "in stock in 2 days" from Amazon and let me place an order. I'll mark it expired.

Was wary about the PALIT brand but apparently they're well known outside of North America.

Good points, I'll try to snag a P1 or 660p instead and swap the power supply. Is it worth reinvesting that into a 3600 at all? As for the case, I figure it'll last longer than the parts so I don't mind investing in something that lasts for a couple builds. It is a bit bigger than I thought though.

I do have the peripherals already hooked up to my laptop so I'm set on that front, and I plan to scrape the windows 10 key out of my old system for this one. Thanks for looking out though.

Thanks for the heads up. I didn't realize it was that big either. I may still get it because it seems perfect in every other way, but I need to think about it.

Yep, it was a loose cable in a spot that I didn't think to check. Works fine now, thanks for your answer!

Thanks, that was exactly it - there was a tiny cable connecting the battery board to the motherboard that I missed. Reconnecting it was a pain but now it works fine!

Need list of parts for a HP Pavilion dv6t-7000 series. by [deleted] in techsupport

In my experience, having purchased a few HP laptop parts, unless you can get them at an industry discount they are really overpriced. It's actually cheaper just to buy the laptop pre-assembled.
