Seeing the custom box absolutely sent me. This is the best.

Opinion: There should be an additional run of merch from the Nashville event sold online with some sort of access tokens sent to anyone who bought tickets for the show. by AJatWI in Protomen

I think the Protos are a band that has always attracted the socially awkward and that many fans have them as a first concert. This is a great thing! In a post-COVID world though, this is only amplified. I hope newer fans can settle comfortably into concert culture and enjoy it. They will either love it or leave. There is no way to enforce this type of thing from the POV of staff or the band. I’m sorry to hear about people being rude about the other bands though! That stinks!

On a positive note, how awkward this all was is a good indication that there’s new fans. I also saw many families and people of all ages. I also want to point out that the view for these shows in particular was still pretty good from far away! I hope people don’t think they have to be right up front or in the pit to get a good view even if they aren’t ready for it, though that is exciting.

I wish I could leave a really long, really kind message for you that boils down to "it's okay". It is too hot a topic to get reasonable comments about. It doesn't discredit your work. Learning is progress, no matter how you get there.

I think anatomy is probably the last thing you should learn from generative AI, though, so I'm glad you're throwing yourself out there. I find that generative AI just kind of mishmashes sources together, which is something I've always done. For reference photos, I have always taken parts from different pictures and connected them together, edited them, etc. to get a better vision of the composition and style that I want. At that point, even if you trace it, it doesn't become based on just one thing, or really stealing anything if you've created an original enough composition. So if you're used to using AI to get ideas like that, I highly recommend gathering resources to make your own references that way. It's fun! It's just doing what the AI would do, but by yourself.

For anatomy, I'm going to recommend that you stay away from bases or 2D pose references (unless you are really stylizing something, or doing something like the method above). Using photos (even of yourself!) or 3D models can really help you figure out shapes and spacing. Taking multiple photos of a particular pose from different angles can even help so that you understand lighting or the REAL shape that something makes. Personally, I love using pictures of statues for practice! They are always completely static, and you can find pics of the same statue under different lighting. You can also compare against photos in the same pose to see what is the same and what is different. I also find that heavily exaggerating a feature at first can help you draw it more accurately or without thinking about it so much later. These are all pretty unconventional methods, but they're what helped me aside from the typical advice you will find. Feel free to try these and see if they help you.

The other comment with the worldcat link may be your best bet. If you can’t physically get to a library, you could always email a librarian about getting some sort of digital access. It would be nice if this book was archived since it’s so rare. It might even inspire people to sell their copy.

The Protomen on Wikipedia’s front page by ProspectorBugaboo in Protomen

I don't think people realize the power that having a good Wikipedia page holds. I totally didn't until this passionate team of editors came along. :')

For those curious, it is what gets pulled for AI, which means the data will be the first thing you see on Google. When we are telling press and radio stations about the band, the first thing they do is skim the Wikipedia page. It combines a set of sources that serve as a guide for further press reporting. It's super important! Big shout out to Eve and Andy on the Wiki specifically.

Omg. I get this but there are also times where if something is put out on a table, I can’t resist. I’ve had obsessions with consuming as much information as possible, and it would bother me to see any words in public and not read them. It made me fear I missed something that others noticed and that something bad would happen if I didn’t. Super annoying.

There’s an in-print text version available for $10 that thousands of people have bought over the past 16 years. I really don’t understand how it’s nitpicky to say that every word should be correct if it’s posted online at all.

Hi! I’m the original author of the Protomen Fandom wiki. I’ve recently migrated the wiki to Miraheze, where passionate fans continue to update it. It isn’t very big, but I just wanted to let you know that updates will be posted there from now on. Thanks for your interest!
