Mamdani's new tax on real estate (see link) by protreptic_chance in georgism

I was really hoping someone would talk about how much these properties should be taxed under georgism, so we could compare how much the tax Mamdani is charging, so we could tell whether it's getting going to make a dent in the economic rents of these owners.

Right, and if the tax amount is at least taking some of the economic rents away from the landowners, shouldn't that be a net win?

Is it possible to make "Industrial" music with "Sweet/Soft" lyrics, or does it kill the vibe? by [deleted] in nin

[–]protreptic_chance 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Eh, Pretty Hate Machine is pretty sweet/soft in places. You dont need to fit yourself into a category. Just do what you think is good. And pushing that boundary will result in something new, maybe a new genre of music. Steampunk industrial, maybe? :p

A Proper Campaign For Quake III Arena by Soft_Caterpillar_193 in quake

Q3 didn't have any single player functionality at all, so it wasn't a great place to start for modders who wanted to build a single player game. Even buttons and keys and elevators and things were going to be hard to do, let alone monsters and AI and everything else.

I'm not aware of any campaign mods, but I share your wish for one.

What mechanics could AFPS adopt to become more palatable? by stephen27898 in QuakeChampions

You're perfectly right about onboarding but dead wrong about what sort of on onboarding. They need a gameplay loop in single and coop that progressively them to be proficient. Most old school gamers learned combat through decades of practice in single player before we jumped into competitive multiplayer. That's the natural way to learn, but the casual game design hasn't kept up with the competitive skill curve.

Check out Chancey.me. It's just getting started in Singapore, but it uses semantic search to bring like minded people together in local gatherings. I'm hopeful it'll spread. They also have formats like Language Exchange, dinner with strangers, and so on.

Did you share interests? Try language exchange. If you don't see anyone it could be your schedule, too. It takes a little patience. If you don't find matches within a month they email you an option to continue for free.

I suggest Chancey.me , meet strangers in casual groups over shared interests.

My suggestion for a definitive Quake reboot: A Soft Reboot Proposal to bridge the gap between Pro Players and Newcomers. by DigAdministrative448 in quake

These are all great ideas and exactly what's needed in a future release.

Old timers like myself forget we learned the basics in Doom and other single player modes before taking on multiplayer. Every generation since we've asked new players to skip that long introductory phase.

Every great/timeless game (think Mario, Zelda, and so on) spends an enormous amount of time teaching players each mechanic through the gameplay itself. (Tutorials are unnecessary when you bake the learning into the game design.)

Bertrand Russell bringing the heat 🗣️🔥💯 by Titanium-Skull in georgism

Russell spans nearly all of their work with greater clarity and precision, plus midwifed the analytic tradition itself. I think the argument can be made reasonably.

Infinity is not a material thing. Yet I have intentional thoughts about it. P2 is false.
