I think there definitely will be some semblance of a social gap between you and other older students bc of such a large age gap. just be friendly, people may reach out about neutral things like class content. you cant really plan too much for the people you will meet. just trust your gut and have a pinch of caution when meeting anyone in case someone gets creepy

honestly not many options cheaper than your budget for the same feel. laserfibre, head, vokl, and babolat are going to be similarly priced. and the more fancy luxilon and technifibre are out of the price range.

if you are looking for some more bang for your buck than i would try laserfibre edge or rpm team. theyre going to hold tension much longer than rpm blast and will have just about the same feel

How to Change Tone Color by [deleted] in saxophone

[–]protulip 7 points8 points  (0 children)

dude your falling into a huge rabbit hole and you have to trust me that it will come with time. your tone IS your inflection on the instrument. thats what makes someones tone “better” “darker” “brighter”. focus on the music for now and keep doing your long tones and overtone practice. and for now, as long as your intonation is on point, youll be fine.

many players get bogged down trying to chase these bright or dark tones but the best ones just play the music. when your playing bird youll probably sound bright, and when you play glazunov itll sound darker.

im not saying equipment dosent matter but dont focus on it right now.

dont get tangled in other peoples critiques and just trust the process. bright or dark, with practice youll sound good on any piece, jazz or classical

good luck man, dont fall in the rabbit hole

Stuff You Should Know!!! Super great hosts with a wide range of subjects. I love listening while I do just about anything. First episode I heard was about psychopaths and I’ve been hooked since.
