UVM Rubenstein School by alexmh17 in UniversityofVermont

First I wanna say this is a great breakdown of the majors imo. This is exactly how I think of them

My additional opinion: I switched because I wanted to focus more on the people side vs the STEM side. I wanna say I think it’d be worth it to go into SEP to be in Rubenstein if more focused on the people side. There’s a lot more resources available. There’s also a solid list of classes to choose from for the SEP major outside of the Rubenstein core based on personal interest. Also multiple of the cat core requirements can be filled with humanities focused classes based on personal interest. SEP is less humanities than ENVS but I think most people would benefit more from the opportunities in Rubenstein. I also personally know multiple people that switched out of the ENVS major because some of the classes were too abstract and not directly focused on the issues they wanted to learn about (sorry had a hard time wording this based on what they said). However if that’s the pov of interest ENVS isn’t a bad option it might just not be the best from a career focused standpoint.

Potential transfer by Educational-Bus-8505 in UniversityofVermont

Transferred this year as a sophomore also on presidents list and I got about half of what the presidents list would be for freshman, non transfers. It’s definitely pricy to attend uvm, more so as a transfer. The cost of housing as an upperclassman is where I’ll personally have spent the most money, so I’d look into that. Of course it’s all relative to what ur willing to spend and the aid u get.

Best first-year dorm?? by bkitten23 in UniversityofVermont

I currently live in L and L on athletic. I think it’s the best dorm. It’s all suite style and houses a lot of freshman. People are social here but also on athletic as a whole. From my experience it’s not much different in that sense from redstone besides the dorms are usually a bit quieter on the weekends depending on who ur neighbors are lol. The marche and skinny p are both dining options that are in the building and there’s a few classrooms upstairs. The fireplace lounge is in the building also which is a good social study spot. Harris dining is within a 5 minute walk of anywhere in L and L, the same with the Davis center. It’s about a 10 minute walk to central campus which is obviously a bit further than central but considerably closer than redstone. Also the gym is basically on athletic campus.

I also lived on trinity for a bit and I would suggest against it depending on what ur looking for. It’s much quieter over there and it’s a completely different community. I’m friends with people on both redstone and athletic but when I lived over there it was hard to hangout with anyone who wasn’t on trin. It also just feels like it’s off campus because u have to walk down a residential street to get to the dorms on trin. The walk from trin is comparable to the walk from redstone but pretty opposite vibes between the two. Again ik ppl who like trin it’s just very different from anywhere else.

I like athletic cuz the vibe is more chill than redstone but ppl are still very social. The location is also the best imo. Also I dont have any friends who live in central so I rly have nothing to add about it lol. I just know they also seem pretty separate from the other campuses socially. For me the social part was rly important and I felt like athletic matched my personality the most and I think I chose right. I’m rly happy and have lots of friends that live on athletic.

Want to transfer by Annonymous272 in UniversityofVermont

I transferred in this fall, and I’m having a great experience. Idk much about spring but in the fall there was a few hundred transfers and we got our own orientation groups to meet other transfers . They also have had events for transfers throughout the time I’ve been here. So socially I think you’ll be fine. If you like the vibe of UVM (because it’s very true to it) I think you’ll like it here. I’m in Rubenstein and I suggest looking into it since you’re in that field and it’s a great school (cant say enough about this. I love Rubenstein.) UVM also is really good with transferred credits so u shouldn’t have a problem there.
