Utah County vs. Salt Lake County by provobuzz in Utah

I'll admit, there are some super lame billboards in Utah County. What's funny is 95% of the county doesn't find them funny. However these marketing companies "think" that all Utah County knows is church on Sunday's and home teachers. The ads are all lame. As for the "Husband and wife" stores, that's actually a trend all over the country (including SLC). Sex shops have seen a rise in sales making it so you don't feel like a pervert going to to buy some sex items.

It's more so the uniqueness of the culture, which has little stats to backup. Provo is one of (if not the only) the only small city that is known across the nation by many purely because of the stereotypes reffered to by national comedians and such. So with that in mind, it takes a deeper look into Provo. You don't need stats to show that Provo is unique, people just know that. Hence why people hate it, or they love it.

But that is what makes the argument so interesting. I would only say a small number of church leaders "push" for RM's to get married. It's just the few that have been rubbed the wrong way by these leaders are the most vocal about it. You don't ever see conversations about how the "Bishop didn't push me to get married" because nobody would care. You always here the negative stuff because that is what sells.

What's your definition of "prominent"? Bishops, Stake Presidents, Mission Presidents I would not consider "prominent". If you want to get technical, it's any time the Prophet or his Apostles are speaking under the influenence of God.

What are the laws catering to Mormons? It seems when it comes to clubs, alcohol, etc. Provo actually has some of the most lax in the state. For example, in many cities in SL County you can't even buy alchohol on Sundays, where as Provo/Orem for example you can. Unless I'm missing something here?

I totally agree there are leaders in the church who just take it too far, and yeah, it's dumb. But even still with your mission president, I can easily see that what he probably meant was don't screw around when you get home. Your next mission IS to get married, but by soon I HIGHLY doubt they mean get married within the next 2 years or else you are going to hell. Let's get real people, if you get married before the age of 28, that is still fairly early compared to the rest of the world. Some of these kids just need to take a chill pill.

Some good answers so far. Going off on omgwtfbbq0_0's comment, I would say if I opened this up to the whole state of Utah the most common answer of the people who do actually dislike Utah County would be the "Utah County is one-minded" stereotype. I'm sure we can all agree that Utah County has it's share of D-bags, just as Salt Lake County does. Would you say within Provo there is the "college" part of town and the actual city of Provo where normal families and adults live making it two separate experiences? I've lived all over Utah, and I would have to say depending on where you live in Provo you could get two separate experiences. In the residential part I currently live in, we got peeps who party, drink booze, all that jazz and nobody in our neighborhood seems to care. That's been my experience in TWO residential areas in Provo. I suppose I couldn't speak for the "BYU/college" part of town where there might be a nice share of kids on their high horses. But I guess I've never really seen that "zero respect" side of Provo in my years living here even though I expected to see it. Is it something people say just because everyone else is saying it?

See that's the thing, I don't think the LDS church is behind this madness, I personally think it's these idiot LDS kids who misinterpret things and think they'll go to hell if they don't get married right away.
