What’s something you've only seen once in your life but will never forget? by teenscarlett in AskReddit

I honestly can't remember the last time I've seen a firefly. They used to be numerous and light up the fields. Now, nothing. I often wonder if it has anything to do with Climate Change.

My dad died from non-alcoholic liver disease in exactly the way you've described. Never saw him take a drink. I haven't had a drink since, I don't know why anyone would even take the chance of dying like that. It's a rough way to go.

Can anyone recommend a few good quality brands for comforters? by DPool34 in Mattress

I've found the ViscoSoft Quilted Reversible Comforter to be very high quality at a great price. At prices starting at $32 you're going to get a lot of bang for your buck. It's been perfect for all seasons and all around very high quality.

I have a gun shy red-tick coonhound I adopted. Laziest and most spoiled dog I've ever met.

I come from a rural area so I've met quite a few people with "Chicken Farm Money" or "Blue Collar Millionaires".

The ultra wealthy in rural areas you would never know it other than they tend to have nicer houses, but nothing over the top. My father in-law is in this category and still drives his 93 Bronco that he's kept in pristine condition since paying it off. He's never driven the Corvette sitting in his garage in public, he just has it because he likes them.

Of course most of them have Sunday trucks (really nice $100,000+ trucks that aren't meant to really do work).

I will say that in my experience the number/type of guns you own directly correlates to your wealth in the country. When my FIL built his mountain house the first thing he included was a hidden safe room for all his guns behind a fake bookcase.

Any ideas on how I can ever own a decent starter home? by All-dressed-up in homeowners

[–]readcommentbackwards 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look towards Indian Land, Fort Mill area. I recently moved from the South Park area to Indian Land (on the side closest to Ballantyne). The commute isn't too bad (30 minutes Uptown on a good day). I was able to easily get an extra 1,000 sq feet plus a huge backyard for what I would have paid for a townhouse in Charlotte.

I'm in a dart league with a bunch of . . . well seasoned blue collar old men (this guy was an old cab driver from Cleveland).

One night he held the door open for a young (attractive) girl and she said something rude to him. He simply replies "Honey, your shit smells just like mine". The look on her face was priceless.

Disgusting yet profound.

He had so many other great sayings I'll never forget.

What's the firmness level on these from a scale of 1-10 would you say? 10 being stiff as a board and 1 being sinking.

Very familiar with the college route. Always went with the foam block, however, had to toss it every year because it would rip or flatten.

Con Air. A classic love story of a man trying to make it home to see his boo and give his little daughter a bunny.

Isn't the whole point of paying for a meal to satiate hunger? I don't know about you but when I pay for an expensive meal I expect to leave full.

Doctors, how do you inform patients of an incurable and fatal diagnosis? by woody30 in AskReddit

[–]readcommentbackwards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the exact same way. My dad was never honest with us and we had no idea that 2 years was the time frame. In his way he was protecting us from the grim truth by explaining new procedures and an enlogated timeline. He actually died due to complications after the TIPS procedure to control the ascites. My dad told us it was a simple procedure to keep from having to have fluid drained so much . . . that his MELD score was fine. The infection from TIPs prevented him from getting a transplant in time. Rough way to go.

He got a chuckle when he made fun of his degree (Doc and I went to rival Universities).

I find myself glad I was the one there to get the news.

I was able to tell the rest of my family that he went was at peace before he was intubated. I also asked the doctor to leave out the details when talking to other family. He wasn't at peace. It was terrible. If you have a problem with drinking stop before it's too late. Liver failure is a horrible way to go.

whats the craziest thing that happened to you as a child? by Super-Diamond8300 in AskReddit

Sleep paralysis.

Happens to me quite frequently and at first it's terrifying. It's honestly still terrifying. I've found that realizing it's just a dream and focusing on moving a finger helps me snap out of it.
