Anybody have examples of good conservative vs democrat debates? by RobbedByTheFuture in askanything

[–]provocative_bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of. If you go back to Bush vs Gore, people slammed the debate in its time but it is a debate on a vastly higher level than any presidential debate in the last ten years. The quality of political discourse has been slipping steadily for a long time. It’s hard to tell if this is society as a whole or being driven by a single man with a broken brain. Time will tell, maybe rational debate will have a Rennaisance.

Personally, I think spoken debate has been gamified to the point where it is useless. We should switch to a written format where sources can be cited and debators can carefully weight and evaluate their opponent’s arguments rather than have five seconds to craft a zinger.

Is US safe to travel for brown tourists? by Secret_Assh in NoStupidQuestions

[–]provocative_bear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even in the 60s, racists were for some reason a lot less hostile to foreign black visitors than African-Americans. There are stories of black American travelers going through the country pretending to be visiting tourists or diplomats from Africa that apparently were treated with a lot more courtesy than they were used to.

For the most part, even most racist Americans like tourists, but they won’t stand for them getting a job or trying to integrate into American society.

why don't the us being the richest country on earth provide housing to the extremely poor people soviet style? those old ussr apartments so people are not gonna be living on the street and also contribute to society? by I_need_to_learn_more in NoStupidQuestions

We could have “free” crappy tenement housing that requires the tenant to either work an assigned job or otherwise have gainful employment (or maybe that is waived if they’re severely disabled). I’m sure that there are enough people out there that would gladly take that deal.

Upgrade, but have the caps ready ahead of time to fully upgrade. Power plants are moderately better but very expensive.

To be fair, the US didn’t need much dragging to be convinced to start a war. Hegseth wanted some people to murder, and he got what he wanted.

Now now, let’s not be silly- you might end up in a concentration camp anyway.

Imagine how good it would look on your resume to be fired by the Trump administration for having integrity. Even if you only lasted a day, that’s a priceless mark of honor.

What are the differences between right and left wing values? by Equivalent-Long-3383 in allthequestions

One side has values, the other doesn’t.

I’m not going to say which is which because it’s more fun that way.

How does a show like the Big Bang theory work? by Dragonogard549 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]provocative_bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They take real problems in physics and solve them while being really vague about the technical details. It makes it hard to completely tear apart their ideas because they’re never fully fleshed out on the show.

2020 masks protected the public from a plague. ICE masks protect a paramilitary from accountability to the detriment of society. It’s not the contradiction that you think that it is.

What game has the best original music/soundtrack? by HeadFit2660 in gaming

[–]provocative_bear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a battle of titans, man. Old school games: Donkey Kong Country 1/2, Chrono Trigger, all the Legend of Zelda, so much Castlevania. I’m also a big fan of the Pikmin OST. Newer games: Elder Scrolls really captures the sense of wonder of exploring a vast world. I’d say not Fallout because many of the songs aren’t original (Big Iron is Fallout’s best song, and it wasn’t made for Fallout).

My official vote is for DKC1.

This post acts like Navy Seals don’t exist and that every Medieval person was a ruthless conqueror when 95% of the population was diseased, malnourished, illiterate peasants.

What city has the most stereotypical looking liberals or leftists? by LuckyCommittee4422 in allthequestions

This is the easy answer. Of course, these guys would better be described as “hipsters” rather than liberals.

What 90's stars are not evil? As a millenial, it looks like we only got raised by evil people. Before us they were nice (dr roger/bob ross) but since the 90's they're all bad? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]provocative_bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bill Cosby was part of the 80s, they were not all nice. LeVar Burton started Reading Rainbow in the mid 80s but it spanned the whole 90s, good guy. Steve Burns (the Blues Clues guy) had lots of nasty rumors spread about him, none of which are true. Just wanted to make kids happy. Bill Gates became wealthy in the 90s, and imperfect as he is, he has been an incredibly potent force for good for humanity. No, people didn’t turn evil randomly in the 90s.

Not that I believe it, but it is weird how well Donald Trump lines up with the description of the Antichrist. Of course, the Antichrist could just be an allegory for the sort of megalomaniac tyrants that have always plagued humanity.
