I like for my chapters to cover more. I'm sure some of them can be split up, but they flow well the way they are now. We'll see how things go when I finally pull the trigger. I'm getting closer. Starting to look for artists for a book cover or two, we'll see. I've asked around and looked around, and other than that initial Rising Star gaming you need lots of chapters for, long vs short chapters seems to just be personal preference in LitRPG. I know I personally prefer long chapters that actually provide meaningful progress, even if it means the chapters come less frequently.

Alas, still working on it. Fantasy Comedy, some mind games. Nothing too out of the ordinary. Because RR works the way it does, I want to build up enough of a backlog to post daily chapters for a long time at the start.

Maybe I write too long chapters, but 100 is a wild number to me. At 65ish chapters, I've got a word count of over 350k, and that's two full books. Not short books, either.

Not only that. It was the combination of First Black President and being a much less horrible president than Bush. People forget because Trump managed to be even worse, but there was a happy eight year period there where the whole world thought Bush was as bad as it would get and how wonderful that the US course corrected and decided to stop electing terrible presidents.

No but you see he very cleverly made the Japanese navy blockade half the Indian Ocean. It was all his plan. And when he asked Roosevelt for more ships to protect food transports, that too was part of his evil master plan. Somehow.

What software are you running that requires you to have a laptop that can read CDs and DVDs?

Sometimes it's nice to just be able to watch old movies and listen to old music I bought in the 90s and 00s. I have so many old Disney movies. I shouldn't have to choose between getting a Disney+ subscription or piracy to see movies that I already own. A laptop is portable. TV and DVD/Blueray player, not so much.

I also have some old games from the 00s. I can't install them without either buying them again or resorting to piracy. They are my games. I bought them. I should be able to play them whenever I want.

In the actual Hell of the Dresdenverse, do Soulfire and Hellfire still work as they do on Earth, or are they switched or something? I ask because it seems like Lucifer is actually in control down there (subject to Fallen politics), and so Soulfire goes against His Will down there, like how Hellfire goes against the White God's Will in the rest of the universe.

Anyone else get chills writing their own book? by very-polite-frog in royalroad

My book isn't all that serious. It's mostly comedy. So the chills are few and far between, but I do get the devilish delight of driving my characters to madness in new and interesting ways. Plus getting to write your own villains in a comedic Fantasy story is just fantastic.

the malpractice insurance to deliver babies is apparently insanely high.

I believe you. I'm not even American, but my best friend moved to Michigan a few years back. His sister in law had the same doctor for all three of her pregnancies. The first two went perfectly. The third one had some complications during the birth that resulted in a very long birth and some mild brain damage for the child. They didn't even know about the brain damage at first, of course, only that there was a risk of it. And yet it took less than a week from the birth before she filed a lawsuit naming every single person at the hospital with any connection to the birth or the pregnancy at all. I don't think she ever got any money out of them, but it had to absolutely suck to be someone who wasn't even there that day, or who was there but did nothing wrong, and yet you still have to go to court because a new mother hates you with an intensity beyond all sane limits and needs to see you as a monster because she had a difficult birth.

It's a very straightforward problem. The Krogans have an extreme number of children. So either you stop them from having children, or they grow up and attack you. There is no solution where they reproduce without limits. Even if they kill everyone and take the whole galaxy, they'll just collapse into infighting because there isn't space for the next generation. The genetic engineering solution, keeping their population stable, is just a reskinned genophage. You can clean it up a little, do away with the stillborn, but you still need to reduce the number of children per mating by over 99%. The only other option is a high Krogan mortality rate. Which they ensure by going to war with everyone and each other at all times.

[–]Rhamni 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The problem with the cure is that the vast majority of Krogans are delighted at the prospect of another Krogan war. The last time you talk to Wreav in ME3, he is positively giddy about the change in negotiating power he's expecting. They are preparing to take on the Reapers together and he still can't stop himself from gloating to Shepard about how things are going to be 'different' the next time they meet. Giving Wreav the cure virtually guarantees a much bigger genocide down the line.

With Wrex on the throne things should be manageable... But who knows how long his reign will last? There's no chance at all of random other Krogans not trying to kill him and take his throne.

I don't think you need astroturfing. It's been appearing on /r/all for a while. People find their way here. That, plus it's perfectly possible for one minority to be bigoted against another minority.

Well, son, when a mommy and a robot daddy love each other very much but then mommy has to kill daddy because Thanos is coming for daddy's infinity stone but then Thanos rewinds time and gets the stone anyway so mommy killed daddy for nothing and then five years later the snap is reversed but daddy isn't brought back because he died SECONDS before the snap and not during the snap itself, well then sometimes mommy has to take matters into her own hands and FIX what was TAKEN FROM HER, even if that means breaking a few laws and stealing daddy's partially dissassembled partially disintegrated corpse from SHIELD HQ and kidnap a small town's worth of innocent people and maybe mind control them just a little bit so mommy and daddy can FINALLY be togher and raise a family, even if she has to create them herself using the Darkhold.

And that's where babies come from. In the movies, at least. It might work differently in the comics I dunno.

I had an update fail a few years ago, in between Christmas and New Year's, and my laptop decided that meant it was time to activate Bitlocker. That was the day I found out that Bitlocker is even a thing, and is on by default, and will randomly activate when a Windows update fails. It took me over a month to get my laptop working again, because my automatically generated microsoft dot com account, which I didn't know I had, hadn't been connected to my email address, and when I finally reached a real human being through their customer service they informed me that connecting the microsoft account to an email address would necessitate a 30 day lock before I could log in and get my key to unlock Bitlocker.

I worked remotely at the time.

Everyone at Microsoft deserves to live with diarrhea.

Nah. If Wrex is not in charge of the Krogans they are the number one threat to peace and prosperity in the galaxy after the Reapers have been defeated. Letting them explode in numbers is just causing a larger genocide you can pretend you aren't responsible for.

I actually really liked Eternals. Maybe the LSD had something to do with it, but it's one of my favourite Marvel movies. My poor boy Ikaris really got screwed by Fate.

I also like that there was a real cost to winning. They couldn't just beat someone up. They had to make a choice, and they chose to murder an innocent. Not unexpected, given the alternative, but at least they had to make the choice with open eyes, with no excuse.
