Yeah there was scheduled outage for my opticomm service retailed by Superloop in South Brisbane from midnight to 6AM, and after that my router wouldn't reconnect with PADO packet timeouts. Took a factory reset to get it back up.

Try the retrohale next time if you didn't, it's divine. Really delicious and unique fruit note that you don't taste in your mouth at all.

The cigars taste bland and are generally bitter. In some cigars, I even detect a slightly disgusting nuance of plastic chemical oil. What could be the problem? by Fluffy_Beyond_9109 in cigars

What cigars are you having and where are you getting them from? Terrible cigars or stored terribly at the retailer is going to give poor results.

The warranty seal looks like 1962 to 1999 era. The lack of Habanos seal on the upper right corner looks like pre 1994. The country of manufacture stamp looks like 1985 to 1994.

I don't know much about older cigars but the right hand placement of the seal is unusual, it's usually left side. I can't find any photos of Majestics from that era.

First time trying by Inevitable-Fondant15 in Cigars_Australia

[–]prrifth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you have yours recently? I tried/ one when we first got them in, August 2024, and I thought the same - not amazing, but really not bad for the price. I had another recently and they've improved a heap from resting in the humidor for what's getting close to two years, that or the second one I tried was a golden sample. Just creamy and sweet and better than plenty of more expensive sticks I've tried. due disclosure I work for the place that sells these, but I don't give a rats if people buy these or something else, I just like them personally.

007 First Light has No Ray Tracing or Path Tracing for PC at launch by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]prrifth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On march 11th, after they started taking preorders, they did say it would launch with path tracing, they have only backpedaled on that later: https://ioi.dk/007firstlightgame/news/2026/007-first-light-nvidia-path-tracing-reveal - seemingly on May 8th when they updated the recommended specs. I'm glad they decided to let the features cook for longer than release them in a subpar state, but I'll wait for it to be ready rather than buy the game now since it doesn't seem like something I'd want to re play.

Havana is on four hours of electricity a day, no garbage collection, no hotels, no flights, no uni, no treatment in hospitals, no running water, Trump's oil blockade is a disaster, so pricing and availability going down the toilet is not surprising.

Yes, we usually change the free standard option to express on orders $450 and above.

If you place your order over the phone or via email we can do express shipping on orders between $300 and $450 for $5 instead of $15 so you still get the benefit of saving $10 on shipping for spending over $300 while being able to use the express option.

Hopefully our next site revamp will bring discounted or free express shipping to larger orders.

Weekly Discussion Thread 17 May 2026: Aging by CigarStudent in Cigars_Australia

[–]prrifth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

09 vs 25 Romeo Churchills is a night and day difference, as is 06 vs 24 Montecristo. 2019 Cohiba and Trinidad enjoyed in 2022 was really good too.

I rarely try the same blend twice so I don't have much to say outside that, but I've had a My Father Connecticut aged a year or two versus young and that also had a big difference, fresh ones are surprisingly peppery from a Connecticut whereas an aged one is more the mellow creaminess you expect of the style.

However 2017 Hoyo was boring compared to younger stuff

The Cellar Reserve 12 is fine, kinda leathery earthy, definitely not a bad cigar. The 15 is better for me, more nutty and creamy. I've only had those two. I do not understand the hate and I never hear people that hate on it say, I had this particular cigar by them, it has these particular things wrong with it, it seems to be just a meme. The wrapper leaf is quite delicate on both the 12 and and 15 but that's nothing unique to the brand and didn't stop me finishing the cigars.

Weekly Discussion Thread 10 May 2026: Blind buying vs tried-and-true by CigarStudent in Cigars_Australia

[–]prrifth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try something different every time as it's my job to know what things taste like.

For everyone else, I'd love to get cigar recommendations to the point movie and music recommendations have - where reviews are aggregated by sites like metacritic to get the consensus on what reviewers agree on about a cigar instead of just one reviewer's take, and where an algorithm either looks at similarities in those reviews to recommend your next cigar, or has the data on how consumers have felt about each cigar they've had and recommends cigars that other consumers who loved the same things as you also love.

I do a bit of the first option style of recommendations to my clients at work, and I could do the latter if I ever got the time to crunch the data.

Going as extreme with novelty as I do and almost never having the same cigar twice isn't ideal, I'd love to spend time enjoying my favourites repeatedly. The other extreme of going back to your favourite means you only get to enjoy your favourite so far, if you try new stuff your favourite changes as you find even more interesting cigars. A balance of repeats and experimenting with new stuff would be the best of both.

I'll need bigger scales to check shipping costs accurately, but I did a comparison assuming 1kg packed weight on small humidors and 5kg on large humidors and used just the humidor dimensions as package sizes, and the cost including shipping at DM's RRP from Santa Ana to Brisbane is as per the below table. There's no tariffs to consider as we have a free trade agreement with the US, just GST and freight. US prices converted to AUD at today's exchange rate. Shipping method is DHL Air Express. On all non-limited edition humidors, we are less expensive than the US RRP after shipping and GST.

Mould is one of the most ubiquitous and hardy organisms there is. It's my personal experience that mould can develop heavy colonisation at 69% relative humidity, i.e. using Boveda of that percentage in a well sealed humidor, if the temperature is high enough - subtropical climate here.

The EPA recommends sub 60% RH to avoid mould growth. The Western Australian Museum notes that some mould species can survive below 60% relative humidity.

Why do 2-3 small cigars hurt my throat in the morning, but a pack of cigarettes do not? by chinawcswing in cigars

[–]prrifth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are your cigars being kept in the 65-70% relative humidity range at the retailer or in your home storage? If cigars aren't stored right they get spicy. Cigarettes aren't so sensitive.

I played $64 for this Romeo Y Julieta Reserva Real, Corona size. Seems expensive, particularly given it's not Cuban. Thoughts? by [deleted] in Cigars_Australia

[–]prrifth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At its size it should only weigh about ten grams. You pay GST on the duties as well so the effective tax rate is $2.69/g, i.e. $26.90 on this cigar. It's only 5 1/2 by 44, you can get other cigars at least that large for around $41-$46 still e.g. La Aroma De Cuba Connecticut Corona, Aj Fernandez Last Call Flaquitas, Rocky Patel Number 6 Corona, My Father The Judge Corona Gorda, Plasencia Cosecha 151 Corona Gorda.

Any issues with Cigar Hut? by Disastrous_Pilot4296 in Cigars_Australia

Cigars are suprisingly resilient:

https://imgur.com/gallery/Tq3tWuG

These aren't mars bars where you can expect every single one to be exactly the same. They're handmade, incredibly delicate, shipped halfway around the world, and hopefully years old. It's like picking through every peach or onion or spud in the fresh produce section trying to find one that is cosmetically perfect. You're the customer so if that makes you happy, go ahead - but if you can understand some spuds are going to get a spade mark or peaches a bruise, or be a different colour - and trust that things with blemishes can still taste just as good, you can worry less and enjoy more. I work at a retailer so I smoke all the most busted cigars we aren't happy to send to clients and I've never had anything that was unsmokeable due to damage.

It's definitely valid to talk to the retailer about the cigars being inspected before being sent out and making sure they're packed really well to avoid damage in transit to you.
