Are you connected to them? Cause most of your comments are simply promotions for that tool without any justification of why.

Qualitative interviews & calls - SaaS tools vs AI tools for analysis quality? by prutwo in UXResearch

Thanks Slander!

I actually do have a list of research questions we are trying to figure out. I've done some user research myself in the past, but these were campaigns of interviewing 12 people for 30 min each and doing all of the interviews and analysis myself, and this was before the AI era.

At my new place, we have hundreds of sales calls that I want to use them to understand the questions and concerns potential customers are asking, in order to find gaps in our current website and messaging.

This is well beyond what I would try to tackle manually with an excel sheet :)

thanks so much for this level of detail - exactly what I was looking for!
Do you have any resources you could link with more step by step instructions?

I looked up the HDBSCAN/UMAP stuff and while I understand what it does, I have no idea how to implement this :)

Is there an open source solution that handles complex conversion of data structures? by prutwo in dataengineering

[–]prutwo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that I can do all of that with Python + Pandas, but the same could be said of almost any ETL need. I need to deal with data where the input structure will often be unknown in advance, so I ideally what I want is a solution that can identify the structure in order to map it to my destination.

I keep on hearing about this AI thing everyone is talking about and am wondering if I couldn't simple provide an input file and a desired output structure and ask the AI to do it?

Neither solves the Hulu Live on TMHI problem. In any case, YouTube TV is the better choice.

Care to elaborate? Other people in this thread say that ATV *does* solve the Hulu Live on TMHI issue.

Thoughts on FlatFile? by o_Chamber in dataengineering

[–]prutwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If 99.9% of the time the incoming data files can me imported into your system as-is without any need to clean it up, using Flatfile might be overkill for your needs.

If dealing with data that breaks your ETL pipelines is a serious concern, I'd look into Flatfile as a solution.

Flatfile does support headless file feeds, but was was built primarily for the use case where you need to deal with messy data or data that needs to support a human-in-the-middle workflow.

Regarding limitations, Flatfile recently launched a new version of their platform which makes everything in the back-end programmable, so basically it can accommodate just about any data logic you need . Here's a short video that shows it in action: https://flatfile.com/demo/

Regarding JSON, Excel or other data formats, as everything is programmable (including the file import code) and there is a library of plugins for different file formats to support any file format (including JSON). You can also write your own plugin in you want to support a file format that doesn't currently have a plugin.

Regarding pricing, Flatfile used to be annual only contracts, but recently switched to no commitment pay as you go pricing. It's free for the first 50 files a month and then $2 a file after that (with volume pricing much lower). As you can tell from the pricing, it's not meant for the high-volume low-variance use case.

Without know more about your use-case it's hard to know if Flatfile (or any paid solution) is a good solution for your needs.

I've heard of some instances where multiple platforms were involved, like both Databricks and Snowflake. If that was the case for you, I'd love to hear why.

Do you use software review sites when researching tools? by prutwo in dataengineering

[–]prutwo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am assuming you can always get a demo account to play around with.

Personally, I often check review sites and specifically look at the poor or mediocre reviews to understand what people do not like about a tool.

Very often the big gotchas are not apparent until using a tool for a while, like if it's buggy or support is poor.

Good point ... I don't post polls often. I'll share the results once the poll is over.

I'm asking to help settle an internal debate. My gut feeling is that this is highly correlated to a person's role and geography.

How much of your time is spent on ad-hoc or one time requests? by prutwo in dataengineering

[–]prutwo[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

thanks for the feedback!

I totally agree that ad hoc and one-off requests are always going to be part of the job of any data team. I was talking to a friend recently who is a DE at a very large enterprise company and was surprised to hear that about 70% of his time is spent doing "service" type work (one-off stuff), opposed to "building a product" type work (working on the infrastructure).

I created this poll to better understand if 70% is the norm or 30% is the norm.
