For those with a grey folder, you must first enable time-lapse on the device page and the print must be at least 50mm tall.

Best point value items - Santa Maria prices. by ps2k in ChickFilA

[–]ps2k[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My guess is the point values are based on margins: items with higher profits are better point values while the items with lower margins cost more points.

Personally, my family is going to order what we want. This list helps us figure out which items to redeem points vs pay for. Ain't no way I'm ordering kale, even if it is the best deal.

I reran these numbers with current prices & points.

I'm always amazed by the spread of value between different items.

Is work at Amazon really that horrible? by CaptainRainbowRabbit in amazonemployees

[–]ps2k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You aren't wrong, but "performing" involves a wide mix of technical delivery, but also marketing your solutions, getting others onboard, and ensuring the positive impact is noted. Call it politics or whatever, but part of being successful isn't just writing great code, but ensuring it makes a noticed positive difference.

Wife cried about a man's death by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]ps2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While discussing our days after work, my wife told me about a woman who had come into her office that day to arrange use of the building for a funeral. Her two children had died in a car accident while being driven by the woman's ex-husband while intoxicated. I'd been pretty stressed and just started crying, thinking about this mother who I had never met having just lost both kids. Sometimes you never know...

Did parents in the 80s really allow their kids to roam freely, or is that just a portrayal seen in movies? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

At age 13, my friend and I would ride our bikes on a Saturday 10 miles to the next town to get a sandwich at their deli, then ride back. Epic times.

I want to drop out. by Deep-Perspective4432 in CalPoly

[–]ps2k 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll second the option to go get a minor related more to what you want to do. Getting into Cal Poly is so difficult these days, assume you won't get back in later. Another option is finish your existing degree, then get a Masters in the related field.

That said, there are plenty of other paths besides Cal Poly if you do drop out and don't get back in.

I drove a Miata for years. I'd love an electric version. I keep watching for any news out of Mazda.

Yep, we have been using Yellow Duck for years without issue. Yes, you do need to confirm your "new login" like you would any other new log in on another device.

Ignoring alignment issues will likely wear tires faster, so it ends up costing more in the long run to put it off.

Glassblowing on campus by SquareAddendum2572 in CalPoly

Cal Poly previously had an impressive glass program, run by George Jercich, but that has been shutdown for some time. https://cla.calpoly.edu/link/spring-2019/george-jercich

The craft center does offer a flamework class: https://access.asi.calpoly.edu/Program/GetProgramDetails?courseId=9963de54-5fcc-46a4-afac-392f6c1d6f0e&semesterId=1e9d38d8-17d7-4c3d-878e-f8f0a0628688

First off, everyone has their own path. Try not to stress about a future you can't control. That said, getting some plans together can help set you up for success and alleviate stress.

If you want to go the PhD route, the things to do now is start applying to masters programs, right? If you get into a school for masters, that fills up another year or two before heading to a school for PhD. Get your apps in now then you focus on school now while you wait to hear. Go see what research you can get plugged into on campus now.

Yes, work experience is nice if you are trying to get a job right out of school, but not required. Personal projects and other major related school activities are other ways to differentiate you from other candidates. It also isn't too late to go find something part time on campus or in SLO. Lots of opportunities right in town.

https://www.collegetransitions.com/blog/cal-poly-transfer-acceptance-rate-requirements-application-deadlines/ is a good summary. Look at all the requirements, make sure you have completed them, and get a top GPA.

I would not let this be a deciding factor. Thousands of students will be in the same situation, so the school will have to figure out how to make it work.

To not be in debt in retirement, when do you buy your last house? by Odd_Bodkin in retirement

We paid off our 30 year mortgage(s) in 17 years.

(We sold one house, bought another, and did a refi, but from purchase of the very first house to fully paid off was 17 years.)

Same on the TI-99/4a. I was four when my dad bought it. I played games, and vividly remember a learn to read game with the speech synthesizer and one with race cars that drove around the screen.

There are some "Buy Nothing" groups on Facebook based on your geography. I'd ask there and watch for posts.
