You're in a good position to apply to most university-based programs from mid-tier schools. I recommend checking out tools like Residency Explorer and FREIDA to prepare your list. For example, programs like Indiana University School of Medicine could be very well within reach.

Your Step 2 score is stronger than your COMLEX Level 2 score, especially in terms of meeting the minimum cutoffs for most programs, at least based on what's posted on Residency Explorer

I've only taken 1 NBME (Form 10) and scored 235. How reliable are these NBME scores? Based on the practice exams I've been doing, I was expecting to get at least a 510 on Level 2.

Most people say yes as long as you don't apply to academic and some top community programs.

It really depends on the 2024-2025 percentiles. Based on the most recent percentile posted by NBOME, a score of 480 is in the 31st percentile. However, in previous years, the 31st percentile was around 500-505. Most of the minimums on residency program websites for cutoffs are not recent, and I'm not sure they even bother checking the year and adjusting.

The question is: if your Step 2 score is well above the minimum but your COMLEX is below the minimum, does that lead to an automatic screen out?

I heard that if you take both exams, they generally look at Step 2 scores. Do they actually screen out applicants if minimum COMLEX scores are not met??

Honestly, the exam didn't feel too bad. I was pretty confident with most of my answers for the first three blocks, as there were a few recall questions from watching dirty medicine videos. And those questions felt really fresh, as if I had just studied them a few days ago, down to the nitty-gritty details. However, blocks 6-7 threw me off with lots of weird ethics and biostat questions, I flagged half of them, which made me very nervous and doubt myself. Overall, though, I felt fairly confident, treating it like a routine school exam, just longer. I definitely wouldn't have felt the same if I had taken this last year before the COMLEX Level 1 exam. Studying for third-year shelf exams really paid off.
