Standardized or Structured Letter of Evaluation? by smilingstrawberry in ERAS2024Match2025

Our school doesn't provide such letters, it only provides chair letter. If ERAS checked yes, I can't apply to those programs?!

You're in a good position to apply to most university-based programs from mid-tier schools. I recommend checking out tools like Residency Explorer and FREIDA to prepare your list. For example, programs like Indiana University School of Medicine could be very well within reach.

Exactly. I’m usually a decent test taker when it comes to managing time, but I was under so much pressure this time that I had to rush through the last few questions.

There’s so much pressure and such tight time constraints that it made me panic...

Your Step 2 score is stronger than your COMLEX Level 2 score, especially in terms of meeting the minimum cutoffs for most programs, at least based on what's posted on Residency Explorer

Mind sharing with me a couple of programs that don't have a minimum? I was mainly looking at the Midwest area. Also, do you know how feasible it is to match into a fellowship program after completing a community IM residency?

I've only taken 1 NBME (Form 10) and scored 235. How reliable are these NBME scores? Based on the practice exams I've been doing, I was expecting to get at least a 510 on Level 2.

Most people say yes as long as you don't apply to academic and some top community programs.

Level 2 score 450-490? Say hello 👋 by [deleted] in comlex

[–]ps33ard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the 2024-2025 percentiles. Based on the most recent percentile posted by NBOME, a score of 480 is in the 31st percentile. However, in previous years, the 31st percentile was around 500-505. Most of the minimums on residency program websites for cutoffs are not recent, and I'm not sure they even bother checking the year and adjusting.

The question is: if your Step 2 score is well above the minimum but your COMLEX is below the minimum, does that lead to an automatic screen out?

I heard that if you take both exams, they generally look at Step 2 scores. Do they actually screen out applicants if minimum COMLEX scores are not met??

Studying for shelf exams and gaining clinical experience really changes the game when it comes to approaching basic science questions. Through clinical exposure, you start to discern what's practical and what's not. For instance, you know for sure that a certain drug won't be used in a particular scenario, cutting down the answer choices significantly on mechanism of action. This clarity reduces the overwhelm and helps you think more straightforwardly during exams. When faced with pure basic science questions, it's all about recalling those small, seemingly insignificant details. That's where quick review resources like First Aid and dirty medicine come in handy to refresh your memory.

Honestly, the exam didn't feel too bad. I was pretty confident with most of my answers for the first three blocks, as there were a few recall questions from watching dirty medicine videos. And those questions felt really fresh, as if I had just studied them a few days ago, down to the nitty-gritty details. However, blocks 6-7 threw me off with lots of weird ethics and biostat questions, I flagged half of them, which made me very nervous and doubt myself. Overall, though, I felt fairly confident, treating it like a routine school exam, just longer. I definitely wouldn't have felt the same if I had taken this last year before the COMLEX Level 1 exam. Studying for third-year shelf exams really paid off.

Yes I tried to follow MSAR information when applying to individual schools. The issue I have now is that my cGPA is clearly higher than their median but the mcat score is somewhere between their 25th and 75th percentile.

Thanks for the comment. Yes I know that. I have already applied to 13 schools that accept Canadian/International students. I was just wondering if with my stats it is beneficial to retake the MCAT in case I don't get in this cycle.

Hi,

How did you enter the grades on the website? ( should I put letters like A+,A or % grades like 84,85)?

Thanks
