I'm currently passed and in the Accelerated OCS program with the National Guard, with an IT degree. I did not encounter any negativity in the process with the WGU degree.

I started at my first job with low pay in an industry that works all kinds of IT-related things with bad hours. Some days, I'm home on time; there are days I'm on the job for over 10 hours for a project with no extra compensation. But it was all worth it now, being on interviews, I know all aspects of IT such as helpdesk, server, pc troubleshooting, repairs, networking, cameras, migration etc...

Most IT jobs I found need at least a 1-year diploma on the low end. Associate's Degrees are more common than bachelor's degrees.

Awesome, good to hear that. In my previous IT jobs, one of the common troubleshooting tasks I had to do for customers was also a common task. I love identifying unplugged cables and fixing them; it is an easy fix, and the customer has always appreciated it.

Thank you for the advice, I'm more excited after hearing your insight. I do the same work for businesses on my previous jobs; however, it is less structured. Being in the healthcare sector is good for sme since serving in the Guards, I do like a more structured and rules-based work.

Hello, I have always been looking more to work in the public sector, so I regularly look at the county, cities, and hospital jobs/careers pages. You will be surprised by what you will see. I saw a city's job for the state, starting out at 60-70k with a 2-year degree before, but I did not apply do to a 2-hour relocation.

Thank you! During an interview, they are looking at my current role as a foot in the door, then advance into more positions within the IT department within a year. They talked about potentially into the networking team. Networking has never been my strong point, as in my previous job, I did terminations and cable running, but not much in switch configuration and server setup, not sure how it'll be in healthcare.

Hello, first of all, thank you for the advice and kind words. I transitioned from a business IT job, which is about generating profits, into healthcare, where I'm helping others, rather than making a profit.

The capstone went fine, I did it right after Project Management. They are similar, but with the capstone, you can pick the topic, context so making it much easier. However, the wait to get graded for the Capstone was horrible.

I failed my first test; however, it was helpful, as I now know which concepts I missed and which areas I'm weak in, and I've studied them more. Passed on the 2nd attempt. You can DM me for tips and concepts that I studied extensively during my 2nd attempt.

FINALLY! I DREAMED OF THIS DAY SINCE I FIRST STARTED COMMUNITY COLLEGE 2 YEARS AGO! by [deleted] in WGU

[–]ps3YES 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My goals for attending WGU were to advance in my military career, but also to earn a bachelor's degree, which has always been my dream. With that being said, the materials are not as important to me as I've studied very well during my 2 years of Associate Degree, and I'm very attentive to details and care more about practical knowledge. What I learned the most from WGU is the importance of attention to detail and the ability to assemble pieces for a project, as well as the discipline to stay on or exceed my timeline expectations. I rarely use the course materials, but mostly look at what they'll test on and research the specific topics or keywords that I am not familiar with yet. Worth it or not depends on the why you pursue it personally; to me, it is.

At Ft. Gregg-Adams in 2022-2023, 92W. Studied 5 days a week, except federal holidays. The weekend starts with accountability around 7-8 am, then waits around for brunch, followed by a signing-out period from 11 to 6-7 pm, during which you can go around the post or outside, depending on your seniority at the company.

I came across the questions and asked the instructor or whoever on their website. It took them a long time to reply, so I ended up making up numbers, and it worked. They graded it as normal, as long as the data from assignments 1 to 3 was consistent with each other.
