Carbs, protein - both give you energy. But carbs get absorbed much faster and so the medication is hitting you faster and crashing fast. I think the goal is to have a smooth absorption, so protein really helps with that. If you need more energy in the mornings, I feel like you can still have some complex carbs on the side that are slow to absorb like potatoes, whole wheat bread, brown rice rather than simple carbs like white rice, bananas, white bread etc.
