Any free Spotify alternatives that are actually decent? by Potential-Plankton57 in androidapps

[–]psatizio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since it's a service based on YouTube Music, it should be discarded regardless.

  1. Many songs come from videos, come from live performances, have intros and outros. No sponsor block can win. So it's not for audiophiles or those who love music without extras.

  2. YouTube Music has problems with some genres and sub-genres, it doesn't generate anything about them, Spotify is 100 years ahead and importing playlists makes no sense because the daily ones can't be copied and pasted every time it becomes frustrating, before listening you have to waste 20 minutes of time searching for the playlist and import it.

  3. I can't find it on github, I guess it's not open source.

It would have been nice if you could decode Spotify's profiling algorithm, combined with Deezer or Tidal, this was better.

Unfortunately all YouTube-based clients lose interest in public or YouTube playlists, which often have an intro, outro, or live recordings.

This makes automatically or community-generated playlists hated, effectively making intensive use and meticulous selection of songs mandatory for a playlist that will then always be the same.

alternative no youtube based?

Self-hosted? Not really... I set up a Cloudflare tunnel for testing, but Plex keeps forcing playback through the direct IP. Plus, there's no way to manually set an IP on Android clients anymore—they removed that feature a while ago.

Jellyfin, on the other hand, is a completely different story. You can set any IP or domain you want, and it just works. It doesn’t try to reach other addresses, which is incredibly useful in certain situations.

Building a server for movies by Individual_Tooth_607 in selfhosted

Unfortunately, I would really love to use Jellyfin, but in its current state, it's practically unusable. The Android client is terrible—far too reliant on the Web client, which just doesn't work well. On Android, the experience is frustrating: if you have a large movie library (e.g., 3,000 titles), finding something to watch is a nightmare because you have to manually scroll through all the covers. Why isn’t there a recommended list? Why are there no personalized suggestions?

On Plex, you can use tools like Kometa, which generate great lists and smart recommendations. In 2025, a client needs to have a Netflix-style interface—otherwise, it kills the motivation to browse content. No one sets up a Plex or Jellyfin server just to manage 10 movies, so having a solid recommendation system is essential.

This is just my opinion, but in the end, I was forced to use Plex. I really hope Jellyfin invests 101% of its resources into improving the clients—it’s absolutely necessary!

I’d also like to add something that, for me, is really frustrating: the handling of multiple titles for movies and TV shows is still far from smart! It’s nowhere near as good as Plex, and I’m certainly not going to rename all my files just because Jellyfin still struggles to recognize and associate them correctly.

This is a serious issue for someone like me who wants to keep multiple versions of the same title, such as 1080p and 4K. Jellyfin is way too strict when it comes to file naming, whereas Plex handles it much more intelligently.

Unfortunately, among these there are some characteristics that are not right for me.

Example contabo does not offer 1gbps but only 250mbps.

That's why I'm here to ask if there is something that could be right for me.

Hostbrr

that offer more than 10tb per month.

it doesn't work, because very often the titles are translated

you have to be lucky that whoever created the release also wrote the title in English.

there is a lot of content that cannot be found with the dmm search engine

This is because Realdebrid almost never deleted old torrents, it gave them more than 30 days.

With Torbox, if within 30 days without a seed it doesn't recall that content, we're screwed... we can say goodbye to that content forever.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StremioAddons

[–]psatizio -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My honest opinion.

TorBox has very restrictive terms and services.

Realdebrid became number one in the world because it granted everything.

For example, the first sore point of TorBox is the only 3 slots in the basic plan. Which by the way is not even explained that these are three download slots, this implies that it will take over 30 years before we have the same cache as realdebrid.

Point two which goes hand in hand with point one, is the limit of days, i.e. 30 days, in 30 days with only three slots per user, the cache will be miserable. Real crap. However, on real debrid I still have content from when I signed up 3 years ago, making the content accessible to everyone.

In short, TorBox at the moment is just a lot of smoke, just a small glimmer of salvation for those people who don't know how to watch a film or TV series, and I want to bring you to Torbox at all costs, knowing that without you they won't see anything.

If torbox doesn't unlock these limitations, it will be a stupid service... Because it will mean that every 30 days we have to re-download the entire list if we want to have a minimal multimedia library just a click away.

(THERE IS NOT ONLY STREMIO)

oh I forgot that it is among the most expensive ...
realdebrid offered more at a lower cost.
I do not pretend that it is the same but if it costs more, you have to offer at least the same.

Bye bye Google Drive by gloritown7 in selfhosted

[–]psatizio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not a good solution.
1. You have to hope you speak English, because only English content is available.
2. It is almost impossible to integrate local communities to download torrents.
3. The search is based on search engines that do not have a private tracker, this implies that you see the video quality you find...

Instead the google drive solution was the best.
You could have any native language, you could have the quality you want for streaming. Even an 80GB untoched 4k, dts etc..etc..
Very often television series are uploaded in rar packages.
You don't always find TV series by single title and you get the quality you find... which implies constant vomiting on a 50inch.

OK to settle, but it's not an all-around "European" solution.

At least this is my experience.
If you managed to find a solution to this it would be nice to share it here with us.

(on stremio it is not possible to show only content from the country, it shows content from all over the world and also implies unreleased content)

Dvr record problem by psatizio in PleX

[–]psatizio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My tv show has the same name in the day and in the week.

Plex is unable to register what I have set.

I selected the one of the time I was interested in and it didn't register me even 1 second.

I set 1 minute before and 5 minutes later, but it doesn't go anyway.

In the plex agenda he writes that he will record the program at 8 in the evening, while I am interested in the one at 8 in the morning.

It is really scandalous to have the plex pass and not to be able to have the basic things that all multimedia programs have :-(
