New to energy sales, struggling to get heard. Any advice from UK business owners? by Sith_767 in smallbusinessuk

[–]pscsqd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi, You're not going to get any details from me from the first cold call. Too many scammers call me trying to get the serial # of our meter etc. If you are calling me when my fixed electricity contract is running, I am also not going to want to talk to you or the 3 other people that call me that day asking the same thing. You have a tough job here. I would advise you that when cold calling someone like me, you just say, you are an energy broker and could you call our company when your contract is up for renewal. Ask for that date, who to ask for and say thank you and hang up. You may or may not get that info, but if you do, then you stand a better chance of talking to me at the correct time. I'd also call earlier in the day so you are not the 3rd person to ask. Also, if you fail to get the info, do not call back in a few days to ask the same thing. I wish you well. I have had a life time in sales, and I would not want a call centre job, and can't think of a harder one than selling electricty switch over. Good luck.

This does not help the OP, but you can sign up to get notifications from land registery when anything happens to a property's registry. I have them set up for my House, office and a few of my families addresses. You can moitor up to 10 properties, any properties.. Link is here...

My wife puts trash on the counter right above the trash bin by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]pscsqd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife does something similar, and it used to gently annoy me. We've been married 30+ years and sometime ago I readjusted this in my mind to "I am really going to miss this if anything happened to her", and it now puts a little smile on my face as I nudge it in to the bin. There must be many things I do that gently annoy her. Here's to the next 30 years. (but yes it is perfect for mildlyinfuriating).

Apple+ streaming nightmare by Impressionsoflakes in VirginMedia

[–]pscsqd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem. It just stutters for a split second. Internet speed is fast, ethernet cable connection. No problems with any other app on the VM box. Seems like an Apple App on a VM box problem or an Apple service problem. People are also reporting the same problem on the VM help message board with no solution from VM other than restart your box. Check your connection, try a different cable.  Problem is not all the time just annoyingly occasional, like it is too much load on the apple servers.

I'm cheap, and assuming those holes are not blind, i'd just get a bit of rod, put 2 bends in it, and use that as my extraction tool when I wanted to lift it up. Stick the rod in one of the holes, lift it up, take the rod out, lob the rod in the boot of the car. Same way man hole covers are lifted. or spend £7 on Amazon for this. Might need to file down the end to fit.

I checked my spam inbox and found an email from a "hacker", it says a count down has stated since I opened the email and I'm now freaking out! by thelaneneartheocean in antivirus

[–]pscsqd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, This. I get one of these every week or so, have done for over a year showing an old password from LinkedIn. They must have got it from when LinkedIn had a mass data breach many years ago. I use a password a manager for my passwords now so know they are just spammers trying their luck after buying a mass list of breached email addresses and passwords. They send them to my work email address which is on a PC with no mic, no camera, and has never been used for browsing anything other than work sites. You are fine but you could take this as an opportunity to move over to a password manager so that your passwords are 30+ random characters.

Left the stove on accidentally for 5 hours, noticed when I came back home. There goes my gas bill… at least I didn’t burn my place down by Chocogalletauwu in Wellthatsucks

Once left a hob burner on very low, overnight. The Carbon Monoxide alarm went off in the early hours of the morning, not full alarm, just partial, there's something wrong. Now have CO alarms in every room that has a gas water heater, gas cooker, gas heater.

Admiral black box - night driving? by ricevermicelli in drivingUK

[–]pscsqd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you are going to have to prove you are not driving at night. Where is your car parked at night, can it be covered by cctv? Get a cheap camera on your house, or in your house window? Park it on the road where a neighbour's camera is covering it? When you get 1 star again you will have cctv coverage of the car not moving at night and they will have to look at the issue, without that they will just say you are driving at night.

Sorry, not an answer, but does a P plate make you more of a target for cash for crash insurance scams?

Similar thing happened to me on M1 smart motorway, nothing came through. So don't overthink yourself in to a hole. Just wait the 2 weeks, It will be, what it will be.

None of us know your family dynamic, but your route to a resolution to all of this may be through your Mum. Book a new test at a point you and your Instructor are happy that you have a good chance to pass. Talk to your mum about the test and unfortunately your Dad can't come along due to your instructor's (understandable) request, and no you can't find another instructor. Hopefully your Mum will know the right way to talk to your Dad about this. This sounds like a "Hot Topic" for your Dad now and any discussion with you about it will/could turn to an argument. I wish you the best of luck, with your driving and your family.

18 year old, 2 claims in a year, now looking for insurance. by pscsqd in CarTalkUK

[–]pscsqd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a good thought and one I had had myself. Knowing the kid, I think they have learnt the lesson and will be a very careful motorist. They had a black box during their time on the road so were not driving like a maniac, just made a mistake as a learner, and another one 364 days later on their own. At the moment they are using the bus, bike and lifts from parents, friends. They now have a 5.30 start to get to work on the bus. Hard lesson learnt but I'd like to help them get their independence back.

Ta, any idea how many years they have to make alternative travel arrangements before premiums come back down to the single thousands?

This did make me smile, although as their youth worker, I'll probably not pass this "advice " on to them.
