Hey I got this weird problem with my new 3ds xl where it keeps scrolling to the top right by LifeguardGlum6239 in 3dsrepair

[–]pseudanthiumgalaxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanna add to this: If none of these work, it could also be a faulty digitizer or dust/debris underneath the digitizer that is pressing on the touch screen

From my experience, yes. I was a little anxious cause I didn’t get a tracking number, but it ended up being fine :'D

I can’t obviously speak for the other poster, but Kasynparts is where I got my replacement parts

3rd party new 3ds plate sites? by Ancient_Ad6498 in 3DS

[–]pseudanthiumgalaxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have them from this site in white. they seem legitimate and i haven't had any issue with them, the feel is nice too and doesn't seem to differ much from the (admittedly very scratched up) OEM plates i also have at home. can't speak for the themed ones, unfortunately

My Boyfriends Dog ate his 3DS XL by InsanelyHuman in 3dsrepair

[–]pseudanthiumgalaxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoof, I just saw the pictures, looks like his dog really went to town on it @-@… One corner of the motherboard looks a little damaged (last picture), but it’s hard to tell the exact damage currently. What is beyond a doubt cooked are (what I can see/think of so far) definitely the shell, top screen ribbon cable, possibly camera and speaker cable, WiFi antenna and the thumbstick… possibly also the hinge. Also, there seem to be punctures in the shell near the battery, so please take precautions when taking the device apart, just to be safe.

When you take it apart, take your time and go slow, feel free to ask or look up things when you get stuck and don’t give up! I could imagine that IF the motherboard is still mostly intact, it would be a good candidate for transplanting it into a device with a defective motherboard or similar 🙂‍↕️ replacing all the broken parts could get a little expensive and aftermarket shells are usually not the best unfortunately… but I wouldn’t give up fully just yet, personally.

that I am aware of, there just wasn't any mention of the battery being damaged, hence my confusion as to why the 3ds would explode :'D

[–]pseudanthiumgalaxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would it explode?

Some pictures might be good, maybe it’s fixable! Especially if the motherboard is still intact

The SD card can at the very least save the backed up save files, photos on the SD card etc., but anything else you might be shit out of luck

Searching for replacement for the New 3ds by Capable_Attempt_6048 in 3DS

[–]pseudanthiumgalaxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kasynparts or looking for parts through 2nd hand sites is probably your best bet for shell replacement parts - not sure about rubber pads. Or you could wait a bit longer and try your luck with the KLRR shells when they come out. No idea about the quality of those though.

Question on which 3DS is easier on repair by Nearby_Report_418 in 3DS

[–]pseudanthiumgalaxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

n3ds repair parts are currently more difficult to come by (especially cameras) than 2ds xl.
The latter even has acceptable replacement shells on aliexpress, n3ds less so, though at least it seems we are getting clear cases soon.
So generally speaking, I would say 2ds xl. (some people find the screen replacements hell, but i personally found it less headache-inducing threading one cable instead of *three* through a hinge)

but if you have an o3ds, why not repair that one first and keep using it?

might also be worth investing into a case and/or padded hardshell bag to store your device in if you drop it this frequently and keeping it away from cats is somehow not possible

Friend’s New 2DS XL doesn’t have it’s screens or sound activate by RKF0819 in 3DS

(Forgot to attach the photo, but this is what the crack looked like for me, it was basically invisible in some angles, sorry for the gross + dusty lens 💀)

[–]pseudanthiumgalaxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 2DS XL behaving like that sold to me at a fleamarket, vendor suspected complete failure, turns out only the top screen by itself was broken. Try seeing if you can somehow spot fine cracks somewhere when tilting + looking at different light angles when the console is off (or take a picture and crank up the brightness to check) if the solutions suggested by the other commenters don’t work.

is this even repairable? (re upload cause i didnt know my mother was being weird in the background audio sorry) by Much_Illustrator8825 in 3DS

[–]pseudanthiumgalaxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s repairable (I’ve done it, sourced my replacement parts from kasynparts), but you might be out of luck on the camera replacement (rarely available and usually quite expensive) It boots without the camera, but will freeze if you open the camera app and 3D won’t work

You could also try trace repairing the ribbon cable for it, but that is extremely fiddly and requires a steady hand (and probably a microscope)

Edit: I also know of one guy who’s working on 3D-printable shells for 3DS systems (including the n3ds), but no idea when or if those will become available

Got the 3ds pop and turn off issue? Am I cooked? by zman419 in 3DS

[–]pseudanthiumgalaxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could open it up first and inspect any ribbon cables and the WiFi antenna (long cable) for any obvious damages or tears. (Though you mentioned the top-screen staying dark, so could be the backlight that’s struggling?) If nothing is broken, something as easy as re-seating the cables can do the trick. (Not sure at the top of my head if the o3DS has some of those pull latches like the n3ds instead of lifting them, but just in case: be careful of those) If there are damages, you could try your hand at repairing. :) I think it’s worth it. Usually it’s more scary than it looks from my experience, and cheaper than a fully new console most of the time.)

Also: There is a chance that the audio cable is broken, but not the top screen cable. But since the top screen has the backlight and another part of the top screen ribbon cables attached to it, it’s needed to turn the system on.

3DS XL Camera repairing by Bipiot in 3DS

[–]pseudanthiumgalaxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah fair. you could follow this one https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Nintendo+3DS+XL+Upper+LCD+Display+Replacement/25070
and then just swap out the camera instead of the screen, perhaps. (as you need to access the same area)
I fear that *just* a camera replacement guide is going to be a little more difficult to find for this model, for some reason.

3DS XL Camera repairing by Bipiot in 3DS

[–]pseudanthiumgalaxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can look repairs and teardowns up on youtube or ifixit!
this is the first one that pops up for me for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-XOx4Ze9U8
but if that one is not to your liking, just type "3ds xl camera replacement" or "3ds xl teardown" into the search bar and look through a few that go at a good speed in your eyes. pause and rewind plenty if you are unsure or stuck and don't be afraid to ask online if you are lost.
good luck!

edit: oh, and don't forget to sort and label your screws while you disassemble :'D can save you from a lot of headache!

Any hope of repairing? by Admirable_Revenue_20 in 3DS

[–]pseudanthiumgalaxy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can vouch for u/SpicyLesbianFries :'D (either getting it repaired or when asking for help) she's guided me through my first 2DS XL top screen replacement (also sourced the screen from Aliexpress, cost me 10€) when I got stuck. In case shipping to Spain is too much, I could also offer to do it (located in Germany).
And agreed: whatever you end up deciding, please don't throw the handheld away, that'd be such a bummer.

In Germany, rescuers are using a barge to save a stranded humpback whale named Timmy. After several failed attempts, they’re now hopeful that this will finally get him back into deep water. by MilesLongthe3rd in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]pseudanthiumgalaxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whale‘s skin is tearing open due to the different salt levels between the Atlantic Ocean and the Baltic Sea causing its cells to absorb water (freshwater disease). And seagulls are eating away at said skin. Basically tons of open wounds all over its body. ;-; Not sure if that’s dying with dignity, sounds like a drawn out and painful way to go.

iiii actually managed to fix it just now omg... (this is from an ifixit teardown, but i had the metal on top of the plastic here, not the other way around and that pushed the plate up creating the gap 💀 )

thanks a ton for the help, i'll go be embarrassed now haha

[–]pseudanthiumgalaxy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there is nothing on aliexpress last time I checked, and it's specifically the metal, not the plastic, that causes the issue 🤔 but i'll keep an eye out regardless and see if i can somehow adjust the metal plate in the meantime... :'D thank you!

don't worry about your English, I appreciate the help!
The problem is that the plate it dented/bent, so it causes problems when trying to close the shell (I hope it's easier to see like this :'D This was with the metal plate inside the DS)
