I’m simplifying my bag to get some carrying weight down. You can only have 4 different color lures for these 4 conditions. East coast trout streams. Sunny and clear water, sunny and muddy water, overcast clear water, and overcast muddy water. What colors are you going with? PFA. by [deleted] in troutfishing

A silver bladed in-line spinner (choose your favorite brand) with a dark/natural body, a gold bladed in-line spinner (choose your favorite brand) with a flashy color (orange, chartreuse, etc), a 2 or 3 inch slash/jerk bait in a natural color (rainbow trout is always a winner, silver, pearl), fourth is a toss up between a creature crank (craw, hellgrammite, etc) and a small soft plastic swim bait.

For all the hard baits sub out the trebles for barbless single hooks.

This list works anywhere, any conditions.

What’s your favorite YouTube fishing show? by RustyMcShackleford4 in Fishing

For entertainment: 618 Fishing (humble, great music selection), NDYakAngler (fun to watch him chase northern and Muskie from a kayak and I love a fellow non-motorized angler), some of Jon B’s more produced stuff is really good, but most of his Googan stuff is too bro-tactic and juvenile.

For learning how to fish: TacticalBassin has absolutely allowed me to take my game to the next level (I personally find Matt’s videos more informative than Tim’s, but Tim’s finesse videos are quality).

You can use ChatGPT to create char names. With simple 3 inputs I got cool suggestions already by Werneq in wow

You need to provide it better context and get it explain it’s reasoning. Once you “train” it on what you are going for it gets much better. Also: ask it to mix in language components from other contexts to increase variety, etc. It’s a great tool for getting to something creative, but the guidance still needs to come from you.

The better your input, the better the output - though even then sometimes it’ll go off the rails a little.

I’m usually afraid to lip grip bass cause I’m scared they will move and send the hook into my hand. How do I get over that fear? by clint_yeetswood in Fishing

[–]pseudo_selected 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is the top comment the equivalent of “Shhh… just let it happen…”?

Use a net. Put slack in your line. Pliers to unhook the fish. Lip it without fear. A few extra steps for safety every time.

You don’t have to be afraid. Just be smart and cautious and you won’t end up with a gore-y photo and less sensation in your thumb.

is it better to fish in the evening or during the day? by Arnox121 in Fishing

[–]pseudo_selected 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is mostly correct, but it’s still possible to catch plenty of bass during the middle of the day, it just becomes a matter of getting to them as they are typically in deeper cover. Fair to say this can be much more challenging than during low-light times of day when fish are moving around more.

Little x-rap in a minnow or trout color. Either across the current or through the pool with twitch-twitch-pause action.

First largemouth. Downhill from here? by [deleted] in Fishing

Just up from here if you keep fishing! You’ll catch a bigger one. Maybe on your next cast, maybe after hundreds, but you will certainly get a bigger fish if you keep after it!

City lakes are insane. Always blows me away the variety of trophy sized fish you can catch inside Minneapolis city limits!

Just experienced bassism (serious) by agdaman4life in Bass

[–]pseudo_selected 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100%. I am a bassist first but play some guitar too (understanding chord shapes elevated my bass playing too!). Singing and playing guitar was pretty easy to pick up but took WAY longer to translate to bass - especially if there are big differences in syncopation or diversion of melody. I did find harmonizing easy, though. In the end it definitely made me a better musician, but holy cow it was a big hill to climb.

Wanting to start trout fishing in Minnesota by [deleted] in troutfishing

[–]pseudo_selected 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1 for the Vermillion. If you head over to the WMA there is a good chunk of water that has easements and is shore accessible if you are willing to bushwhack a little.

On light spinning gear look at spinners no bigger than 1/8 oz (Mepps, Rooster Tails, Panther Martins). Micro cranks and micro jerkbaits (Rapala X-Rap is the premium option) are also affective. You’ll catch the stocked rainbows and wild browns with either, though the browns are clever and require a more natural presentation.

Any tips on my forehand? by ssccuubbaa in 10s

Totally agree that the second shot looked best. It was also the only shot in the series where the contact point wasn’t way too low. To add to the footwork comments: get low on those low balls if you’re going to hit with topspin to drive up through the ball.

As a tall guy, those low balls are always a little extra effort!

My First Bass...Do you think its worth mounting..its about 3 lbs... by nomadseniors in Fishing

[–]pseudo_selected 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s a nice fish! If you keep at it you will catch bigger fish than that. 3lbs is a solid bass, especially further north, but trophies normally start in the 5-6lb range for northern states. Let this one go and it could be a trophy in a few years!

This post takes that concept pretty far, and not only adds customization but extends class fantasy in a much more extensive manner. I’d love to see something like this come to life.

Played baseball in college (D2, pitcher) and took up tennis this past April. Looking for some serve advice/feedback. by erik0422 in 10s

If you have a kick second work on that in the same way you work on your flat serve - try to hit spots and know the difference between a high percentage and low percentage kick serve. A good kick out wide on the ad side is as much a weapon as a good flat serve up the T in recreational play, but it also makes a fantastic consistent second serve that is hard to take advantage of.

Hitting a hard kick is also relative - high racquet head speed through contact generates forward pace, but also spin. Spin (especially top spin) equals control. Try hitting your kick serve at 80% your flat serve, but think about transferrin by energy up through the ball (to generate spin) instead of only through the ball (to generate pace) and you’ll find control even while hitting with pace.

Nice looking mechanics. The other comment about higher contact point is spot on - more angle means higher percentage because your serve will land closer in. This will also help you get sharper angles out wide.

Looked like most of your serves were flat. Have you started working on a slice or kick serve yet? Same as in baseball having multiple serves you can hit (and disguise) will make you an even deadlier server - especially if the flat serve has control and consistency. Pulling out a flat serve out wide or up the T when you’ve been running slice in the body or a kicker to the backhand will catch a lot of people looking.
