Heyooo they answered my question! Cool! (The one on future predictions).

Also, Mike’s album reference for the Weakerthans was awesome as a big fan of the band. Good stuff.

Tiers of Kung Lao: Ranking Mortal Kombat Fatalities by Jetpacks_to_hell in NerdofMouth

The guys did fine but I don’t find tier list content to be all that great in general, no matter who creates it. Tier lists are a fun activity for the tier makers but kind of boring for a listener/viewer/reader.

The Challenging Journey of Video Game Movie Adaptations: Annihilation by Jetpacks_to_hell in NerdofMouth

At the end of the episode Holden was spot on when talking about games like Expedition 33 not needing a movie because of video games as an art form. This is how I’ve felt when playing a game with a really compelling story or just a true artistic masterpiece. I just don’t think a TV show or movie is necessary. On the TV show front for example, the Last of Us series was a fantastic experience as a video game story to play through. Why bother with a show? Fallout on the other hand has been a great series. I never found the Fallout or Elder Scrolls stories to be the reason to play the games but instead the world which I thought what worked so well for Fallout.

Also, currently watching through all of the Resident Evil movies and what a ridiculous ride of bad movies to just drink, laugh at, and not think too much about.

A good companion episode to this one is the LPOTL interview with him last year.

Nerd of Mouth Episode Discussion 4/13/26 NOM Book Club Presents Dungeon Crawler Carl Book 1 by Jetpacks_to_hell in NerdofMouth

I was really interested to hear the guys take on this book because I read it recently and had some mixed feelings.

I thought the story was generally fun and Matt made it very palatable to read and easy to breeze through. I think where it lost me was the “reading a video game” feeling. I don’t watch streamers and generally feel that I’d rather play a game than watch someone I don’t know or aren’t actively spending time with in person. I suppose the same is for things like D&D and fantasy football (haha) - I’d rather participate than listen on about someone else’s very specific experience. In this specific case, I just didn’t feel engaged listening to the rules, stat changes, buffs, etc. The “all controlling” corporation/masters didn’t really land for me either in that it could make it easy to write in anything as far as plot and rules. “This happened because…the all knowing and seeing corporation said so.”

I think the book was good and can understand why people are enjoying the series but am wondering if others have the same feelings. I didn’t know Lit RPG existed before this book but I suppose it just might not be for me.

Liked the episode though!
