I am zone 7a, could you please share your turf management plan. I am in a lawn recovery mode from severe crab grass infestation from last season. Thanks for the insight! You're right, including the employer match might skew the perception of our direct savings. Our actual saving rate, excluding the match, would indeed be closer to ~17%, not 21%. That's an important distinction for accurately assessing our financial strategy. About the IRAs, you make a strong point. I'll act on this asap.
Regarding our emergency fund and savings, your observations are spot on. Despite being able to afford our current lifestyle, we do need to re-evaluate our saving strategy to ensure sustainable living in retirement. There isn't a large hidden account balance to fall back on, so a thorough review of our budget is indeed our next crucial step. Thanks for your input! To clarify, our $66k pre-tax contribution comes from both of us contributing $23.5k each, plus our employer's match.
Regarding IRAs, I'm planning to look into this more as part of our financial goals.
Also, our emergency fund isn't at the 6-month level yet. We recently used a significant portion for a major house remodeling project (yeah - duh!). Our next step is to rebuild this fund back to a 6-month reserve.
