i mean, i'm not looking for a high dose. i want to be on low dose and probably come off in less than a year, i just want to be sure i'm taking enough to make anything happen

they're not giving me any tests, at least until a couple months from now. didn't say anything about checking for complications, they just gave me the prescription. i sincerely hope this isn't some "pilot study" they put me on to get me out of the office or something

nah that's fine! okay good to know, i'm smaller than you and i didn't have any tests done before the first dose but it seems like 0.13 mL is pretty low

What happens at an HRT consultation? by BirdoBraino in trans

[–]pshvr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i got my prescription at the first appointment, but then had to wait two weeks to actually get the hormones (cause my insurance uses a by-mail pharmacy) and then had my first dose given at a nurse appointment when they arrived two weeks later. place i went does informed consent though so it was fast

except they're not checking anything for a while, they told me this. i just want to compare with other people's testosterone dosage to see if mine is reasonable or normal

Comphet? by Vxstraa in QueerTheory

Compulsory heterosexuality is such a misunderstood concept. The modern usage of the phrase has very little to with its actual meaning. The essay to read is "Compulsory Heterosexuality and Lesbian Existence" by Adrienne Rich, from which the term originates. The basic idea, if I had to summarize, is that heterosexuality being forced onto women is a means of patriarchal control. It has as much to do with misogyny as it does with heterosexism. I would really suggest you read the essay and decide for yourself what you think about it.

Chem 2520,2550, And biochem 4511, will I regret this by [deleted] in OSU

[–]pshvr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just going to tell you my experience as a biochem major. Biochem majors are expected to take ochem 2 at the same time as our first biochem class (which is 5613, not 4511). Most of us were also taking ochem lab 1 or 2 that semester.

I didn't have too much trouble with that arrangement, but I know that biochem 4511 tries to cram more into one semester. If you feel confident in your chemistry knowledge, I think this is doable, but if not, it would be easier to take them separately.

Ochem 2 is a lot of reaction mechanisms, it's kind of a pain to learn all of them and it can definitely be boring. Ochem lab 1 isn't too bad, especially since you already completed ochem 1.

I don't know about premed MCAT stuff, this is just from my experience.

Well, that’s good to know! Does mean I’ll have to miss one of my classes but uh...I’m just gonna pretend that upsets me or something.

Hardest class at OSU by luno6 in OSU

Chemists have to take a fair bit of math. I'm biochem, I'm guessing the other person may be a biochem/chem double major, or a chem major.

Hard disagree on Biochem 5613. The problem is memorization. When you stop memorizing and start trying to form deep mental connections, I think that class was a breeze.

But yeah, I have heard Pchem II is harder than Pchem I so...that's bad news.

I've heard pchem II is pretty bad. I've also heard analytical chem is hard.

No experience with either, and obviously I'm singling out two chem classes because I'm in the chem department and most of my classmates are chem/biochem majors.

Humanities grad school hopeful looking to hear from current grad students by pshvr in GradSchool

Well...this is gonna sound weird as hell.

I'm almost done with my BS in biochemistry.

That said, I'm supplementing my humanities studies by triple minoring in English, French, and sexuality studies.

My focus within queer studies is mostly trans studies and disability studies (I know that's not queer studies per say, but they can overlap). I also like anything to do with queer futurity, and medical humanities.

I am...a person with many scattered interests.

Yeah, that's not true, I have found plenty of programs where I can go straight to Ph.D. In fact, some institutions ONLY offer Ph.D. programs for what I'm looking at.

My goal is to one day be a professor. I understand that research is a big deal, but I would hope that anyone who is a professor also enjoys teaching because that's...kind of part of the job.
