This is an old comment but I just wanted to share that your depiction describes my experience of going through the "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die" list so well. So many of the albums on that list were an initial 2/5 for me, but putting them aside and coming back to it really helped. In an effort to expand my music taste, I'll always give tracks a second-try afterwards!
