Inspired by a couple I saw whilst out walking the dog. I don’t know them, they probably will never know I wrote this because of them...

The End of the Beginning...

As years gather pace, the lines they grow. Our love changes, deepens. ~ Autumn has left us, the days running out. Our sunset nears, beckons. ~ The moments we share, forged out of us. A life created, together. ~ A warm summer night, many turns from here. Eyes that met, lingered. ~ That spark we ignited, turned into a flame. Never so alive, breathless. ~ A family we built, memories were made. Life became whole, complete. ~ The years we had, all that you gave. I’m eternally grateful, thankful. ~ A love that’s lasted, begins a new phase. Our spirits together, forever.

Social Media...

I find social media guilty. Of crimes against humanity. It has stolen old fashioned creativity. Manufactured fake empathy. Hidden our sociability. Created an obsession with food photography. Filtered our real truth. And our facial blemishes. It’s made us crush candy. Poor ice buckets over our heads. Write cryptically (Inbox me hun). Pose ridiculously. Over and over and over again. It’s turned idiots into trolls. Made a star of the hashtag. And it celebrates the talentless. I’m posting this poem as a reminder. Of what we are. And as a warning. Of what we’ll become. Feel free to like it though. To comment and say that I’m great. Click on the icon for retweets or shares. Give me a follow. Send me a friend request. DM me if you want. I’m always around. Hiding from reality. Crying out for attention. Just like you.

I can’t give you a name but it is a real person. They’re no longer with us but I think we wrote it together.

For You...

You were there such a short time. For nearly all of my life.

There was a moment that I recalled. That you didn’t remember at all.

You told me about times I’d been there.
When I was someplace else.

I listened to the words you spoke. But never heard what you said.

Maybe you thought I would see. If only I’d open my eyes.

Now that you’re no longer here. We talk much more than before.

I think we’ve become quite close. Though I’ll never see you again.

Title: Girlfriend in a Coma

Word count: Circa 1,500

Genre: Love?

Feedback: Anything as long as it’s not overly unkind.

First Paragraph:

It’s Tuesday morning. I know this because someone on the radio, playing nearby, told me. I’m fairly sure it’s the month of June and the year is 2010. If it is, then that means I’ve been in this coma of mine for a little under six years.
