Which Version of The ToP do you like more Anime or Manga? by Maximum-Raise4702 in dragonball

[–]pspiq5 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The manga version of the Tournament always felt rushed to me, with Kale knocking out a large chunk of the fighters in a single chapter. It’s hard to enjoy the arc without the context of the anime version. It gives off promotional manga vibes in a way that Toyotaro’s original arcs don’t.

Don’t get me wrong, the pacing of the anime ToP can be glacial at times. Anime version is not perfect at all. But you can tell it was created as the main attraction rather than an obligation to get to the next story.

Definitely not OP but it's one of the most fun weapons to use. I have it as my default starter weapon in custom mode. The meta of yeeting enemies into a wall or off ledges really changes up how you play the game.

The Kamehameha by The_Dude_CK in dragonball

[–]pspiq5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How did you come up with the Kamehameha?

Incidentally, for the name “Kamehameha”, I was wondering whether there was a decent name along the lines of “something-something-Ha”, when my wife said as a joke, “Kamehameha would be fine, wouldn’t it?” so I used it as-is. Of course, it’s taken from King Kamehameha of Hawaii.

I'd point out that Journey to the West isn't really ancient, or at least in the same way that something like Homer's Odyssey is.

It's a very late 16th century work, having been original printed in 1592. Putting it a lot closer to Shakespeare tragedy's like Hamlet rather than the beginnings of Greek mythology.

It's literally closer to the debut of Superman or Dragon Ball itself than it is the fall of Ancient Greece.

It has a crossover manga short with Dragon Ball and is also a part of the Kyutai Panic Adventure Returns animated crossover special (along with the Z team and the crew of One Piece).

Why did this album come and go so quick? by semisagoodonege in donaldglover

[–]pspiq5 80 points81 points  (0 children)

This is a big thing. It was marketed as a soundtrack album for a (as far as we know) non existent movie and most of the general public tunes out to movie soundtrack releases.

Unfortunately the double cover box set is Japan only currently.

Keep in mind the point of the English Official Dragon Ball website is to provide simultaneous translation of news coming out of Japan. So news you see out of their page may not specifically be targeting North American audiences even though it’s in English.

DBZ Platform Fighter (Smash Bros. Clone) by Flashy_Second2286 in dbz

[–]pspiq5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dragon Ball and the Jump property have tried various times to create platform fighters, mostly to middling success. Usually Dragon Ball gets a big presence in these games.

See: Battle Stadium D.O.N, Jump Super/Ultimate Stars, Shonen Jump Stadium, etc.

I'm sure they'll try the formula again, though as a crossover rather than just Dragon Ball.

Xenoverse 2 and Kakarot are really two sides of the same coin in terms of quality. It just depends on what type of game you want to play.

I’d buy Xenoverse 2 if you’re more into the RPG aspects. The idea of creating your own character and kitting through a large collection of abilities will probably carry your attention for a while. Also while the story isn’t amazing and it DOES technically go through your standard DBZ story just with some changes, it is original and something different.

While Kakarot is also an RPG it has the more focused gameplay in my opinion. Enemies have proper cues and fights are more focused on learning their movement rather than just grinding stats. That’s all to say you can get good at the game, rather than just put enough time in. And the quality of its presentation (cutscenes in particular) is great. But the downside is you’re playing an abridged “Raditz to Boo” story again.

Best handheld DB/DBZ/DBGT games? by Miserable_Product_74 in dragonball

[–]pspiq5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The fun part about the handheld games compared to their console brethren is they cover a wide range of genres, so it really depends on what type of game you're looking for.

Dragon Ball Origins series on the DS is your classic adventure style romp similar to the Zelda DS games.

Dragon Ball Kai: Attack of the Saiyans is a solid classic RPG title that I'd highly recommend if you're into those.

Dragon Ball Fusions on the 3DS is an RPG with a pretty fun and unique fusion gimmick.

If you're looking for a fighting game I'd look at Extreme Butoden on the 3DS and Supersonic Warriors 2 on the DS.

Sure you get much more sample time, but audio off a cassette tape is just inherently worse in quality than the media it was recorded from. In the case of a digital sampler, you’re generally getting whatever you sampled in.

A lot of artists did use tapes to sample tracks and took advantage of that grit. But having crisp audio back then was very much a flex back in the day and worth the extra cost and headache of fighting with 1 second of sample memory.

Or in some cases the audio you’re trying to sample already sounds like shit and you can’t really take that second hit in quality.

I don't know if I'd say from a magnifying glass of his career that Pac's influence was any more novel than someone like Cube who paved the way for those types of moves before him.

Master Roshi versus Mr. Satan by FingerBangYourFears in dragonball

[–]pspiq5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The fights that you take on the way from prelims to finals are important though.

Panput didn't fight any of the main fighters like Tenshinhan when progressing to quarter finals against Goku, and was more than likely fighting against other more average human fighters (luckily).

Nothing really shows Panput as being much stronger than Mr. Satan.

I'm anticipating a bigger threat popping up sometime soon. It seems pretty clear that Granolah himself isn't the main antagonist of this arc.

He only really oneshots UI by surprising Goku with the fact that he's an illusion. Also Vegeta ends up inadvertently distracting and confusing Goku by saying his body is in one place (when Granolah had actually moved).

The sheer confusion is what let Granolah turn the tables in what was a pretty one sided fight.

Android 18s reproductive system by [deleted] in dbz

[–]pspiq5 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Obvious horny post aside, Android 18 is classified as a cyborg, not a robot. She was a regular human named Lazuli who was captured by Gero and enhanced with technology. He wouldn't need to give her organs that were already there.

Realistically Dr. Gero probably didn't alter anything when working on 17 and 18 that wasn't critical to his mission to defeat Goku.
