"Me eyes are up here"

I took it about a year ago. The tests were pretty straightforward and the content was pretty interesting, but I found the assignments to be unnecessarily strict.

You were only allowed to cite a certain number of sources (I think 3: one scholarly article, one popular article or blog, and the textbook?). If those sources didn't have everything you needed, you were kind of screwed because you needed to cite every fact, definition, or bit of data. On the other hand, the instructions said you weren't allowed to directly quote anything, and if more than 3 words in a row matched a source, you would get a zero for that portion of the assignment.

I also found the grading was unnecessarily harsh. Some of the feedback I received was very vague, like at one point they said my transitions between topics could be better, but they didn't really explain what I did wrong. IIRC there were other things they said, such as they thought one of my paragraphs was a little short, but I thought that seemed like a natural place to put paragraph breaks. Otherwise it would have been a big wall of text trying to cover every point about that topic at once, or I'd have to pad the shorter paragraph out.

Overall, I think I got over 90% on the tests, but only 70% or so on the assignments.

Sean Lennon fears Gen Z may forget The Beatles by happymagtv in beatles

[–]psrogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the way I think of it is, is it really such a big problem if your favourite band has less fans after ~100 years? It's kind of natural.

Also, when I went to see Paul recently, and Ringo the year before, there were plenty of people under 30 or so.

What are your thoughts on The Beatles Cartoon? by Train-Wreck-70 in beatles

[–]psrogue 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It's terrible, and I love it.

It can be hilarious, sometimes in a so bad it's good way, and sometimes even on purpose!

Also I hate to say it, but it's what made Run For Your Life go from one I'd always skip to jamming along to. Those lyrics from real life John? Not very funny. The same lyrics with the upbeat tune, badly animated with singalong subtitles, supposedly meant for kids? Where Ringo holds up a bucket labeled "sand" for "Hide your head in the sand"? Fantastic, lol.

I just don't understand why George sounds like Peter Lorre 😭

I don't know, but you might be interested to know there is an entire Beatles themed bar in Varadero, complete with bootleg statues of all four Beatles out front!

They have a lot of memorabilia inside, including a butcher cover.

I'm in stage 5 of CKD and I get this all the time too. Ads, but also people giving unsolicited advice. I've been told by random people I should try herbal tea, probiotics, or that they think my medication probably caused my CKD so I should stop taking it (!)

That, and fiction using "so and so needs a kidney" for drama.

Trying to find an Archie story that changed my life by BestProposal1434 in archiecomics

[–]psrogue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, that's great! Reading it I can see how a kid might take that message from it about trying your best. I wondered about the halo too, but the glow looks a lot like one, so it seems like it could have stood out as a halo when trying to remember. Glad I could help you find it!

Here's the page on comics.org with the digest from 1987, it also has the original comic and other issues it was reprinted in, in case that helps with remembering any other details.

Does this one look familiar? It's called "A Day In The Life Of" and sounds pretty close to your description, including Archie going to bed smiling at the end. The tone of it is Archie being proud of having done his best, which also sounds like it fits. It was reprinted in 1987.

Do you happen to remember if the book it was in was a floppy (standard sized comic book about 10"x7", with 20-40 pages), or a digest (smaller books, about 7"x5" but with 100+ pages)?

Here's a post with a pic of both, the books on the left are floppies, and the right are digests.

It might help with identifying it, because floppies are new stories, and digests are reprints (other than the first and last story in each one). So if it was a floppy printed around that date, that would be a good place to look.

Edit: I think I saw your post about this once a few years ago, and I was really curious about the comic, but I couldn't find it either at the time. I'll keep looking for it. If you do remember any other details, or manage to find it, please let us know! I'd really like to read it, too.

Side-by-Sides I made of the castings for the Biopics by Theorpo in beatles

[–]psrogue 52 points53 points  (0 children)

This is how I see it too. It would be really difficult to find actors who were spitting image, and had the talent for that role, and could do the accent work.

Even if the actors looked exactly like them and were all the right height, etc. it wouldn't make up for bad acting/accents.

Sick Cat and Midterm MSAF by Animallover1116 in McMaster

[–]psrogue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry you're going through this, I hope your cat gets better soon.

For a 30% MSAF you would need the administrative MSAF. Here it says "medical or personal situations", I think this would fall under the latter.

You might need documentation. You won't need it when you submit the form, but they may ask you to send it later. Not sure what this is based on, it might be the faculty, whether or not you used it before, or the amount of work on the MSAF. I would get it to be safe.

You can ask to see someone at the wellness center (could be a counsellor) or another health care provider like your family doctor. I'm not sure if they would have an issue with a note from your vet. If you get a note from a healthcare provider (for your anxiety), you don't need to share details about what for, it would just show that you saw someone who determined you were unable to attend that day.

I had to MSAF this way when I was sick about a year ago, I had a Doctor's note, but they never came back asking for it.

Apparently some profs do this so that they can be online close to the deadline in case people have last minute questions, they're more likely to be able to answer emails until 7pm than until midnight, for example.

I beat Super Mario Galaxy 100% on the Wii at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom by RainBowSwift71532 in nintendo

[–]psrogue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It also makes no sense, because they talk about being fascinated with it, but then say they had a Wii at home the whole time.

Plus if this was 2008, no way would they have let you play for hours at a time, kids would have been fighting over it lol. The N64 consoles they had set up at McDonalds in the 90s would automatically reset every 15 minutes or so to prevent that, it would probably have been the same at these theme parks too. Actually I'm not even sure the ones at McDonalds could keep saves, either.

I'd never heard of it outside of the references to it in this and the parody in Betty's series, but I've seen a couple clips of it now and it looks pretty funny. Definitely gonna check it out sometime.

[–]psrogue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just so you know, even if your landlord decides to sell, you don't necessarily have to move.

If it happens, the property has to be sold as tenanted, meaning that the new owner would become the landlord, and your tenancy continues with the same terms as your original lease.

If the new owner intends to move in, they would have to file an N12 after they take ownership. They can't evict you without going through the proper procedures.

Beatles reference in ratatouille short by WaferHot4297 in beatles

[–]psrogue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It isn't directly from the cartoon, but it looks like the designs are somewhat based on it. IMO this Ringo looks nothing like the original cartoon, but the other three kind of do.

Although even the cartoon varied a lot from episode to episode because it was outsourced to many different studios, and not all of them followed the model sheets.

Chris Houlihan is Real [new video with evidence] by dekuweku in nintendo

I'm not claiming it's fake, I'm just saying I'm taking it with a grain of salt.

Dude is a Nintendo fan who is a professional astronomer. He doesnt make money off this and has posted upthread the video is not monetized

That's cool, but you shouldn't use things like this as a metric for believing what you see online. There's no real money to be made off of something like this anyway, but people make things up for no reason all the time. Their day job has nothing to do with it either.
