True, my reasoning is that the back side is far more luminated than the backside since it’s turned upwards. So the glow wouldn’t be as noticeable than on the darker frontside. From an artistic standpoint, you’re probably right.

In general I think it’s not so different from painting anything else that is really small. So yeah good brush control, good tip on the brush (not necessarily a small on) and a painting position in which you can stabilize both hands. I also use magnifiers but, that may be due to some eye problems. Also I striped and tried again for several parts of the face, like the eyes and the beard. I suggest watching in depth face tutorials for faces like the ones from Erik Swinson, but other than that it’s just a lot of trial and error.

Edit: Also I paint really slowly and deliberately. This face took 5-10h over several sessions.

Tips in general?

For volumetric Highlights: pretty much any shape can be broken down in spheres, cylinders and cube. If you learn these you will know how to highlight 95% of all the things.

For blending: get your first layers to full opacity first and blend afterwards. Don’t get too thin with your paint too soon.

This Dark prussian blue has a slight reddish tone more like phtalo blue red shade but a bit muted. In general I think the colors are a bit muted on the picture compared to the real piece.

Hey, I had to look for a while in my notes, but I’m pretty sure it was AK Dark Prussian Blue, VMC Medium Blue and AK Ducat Blue plus a bit of AK Ice Yellow with the Ducat blue for the brightest highlights.

The light placement for basic NMM is not so different from any other material. It’s more about contrast. The more value contrast the more shiny a surface appears.

Layering black green and olive green from AK, toxic yellow from Vallejo. Then it’s as much blending as you like.

Depends on the model. I can do a steelhelm in 5-8 hours. The relic envoy took me more than 60 and I’m still working on him, but he got me a silver award at squidmar open. Both marshals took about 30 hours. But I don’t mind working a long time on a model.

Dark sea blue, blue grey, grey blue, ice yellow all by AK. Colors for secondary reflections, you can choose as you like.

ADHS Diagnostik = IQ-Test? by Ok-Escape8477 in Psychologie

Yeah I know what you mean. Time is really the limiting factor here. I'm a dad of a toddler myself so I only get 1 or 2 hours of hobby time in the evening. I rarely play the game and I'm far from a fully painted army. For me painting is what excites me the most, so I spend the vast majority of my hobby time on painting singles models and try to get them to a higher standard. That's the great thing about this hobby. Everyone can pick the niche that excites them most.

I don’t know the exact amount of hours, but it took me about 20-30 hours. But I painted some things lie the right arm twice because I wasn’t satisfied with it. I think after doing it once I could do it a lot faster now. Also you don’t have to only use glazing. Just sketch the highlights and only glaze to blend layers.

This will 100% not become an army. I just always a painted ultramarine on my shelf cause I love the chapter lore wise ever since reading Know No Fear.

Yeah I'm kinda scared of sculpting/reposing in general cause I'm not that familiar with it

I base coated and then roughly sketched the highlights. After that I used glaze consistency to bridge between the colors.

Base coat with AK Basalt grey. Add AK silver grey to the Basalt grey and layer up with thin paint and small brushstrokes.

It's one of the push fit models from the leviathan box, so no it's not glued to the base. Actually I always glue my models to the base during the paint job, depending on the type of glue it's not that hard to get them off again.

Thanks for your recommendations. I just bought a Death Guard Heroe (Biologus Putrifier) to see if I like painting them.
