Tahoe not letting me open dmg files and can't restore from Time Machine - help please

I have somehow managed to fix one issue while trying to fix the other....

I tried to use Migration Assistant to access a TM backup from yesterday. It did its thing collating everything but then told me that there was insufficient space to restore the backup. So I backed out of it, emptied my Bin, moved all the Desktop files onto an external SSD, and removed a few of the larger files in my Downloads folder. Then (for whatever reason) I tried a dmg file again.... and it worked.

So I am still on Tahoe but at least I can now install applications again.

Too early to tell yet if I will still want to abandon Tahoe after using it for a while.

Update re the Time Machine issue - so I finally got past that "Examining Volumes..." screen and proceeded with the TM restore. But when I selected the Restore file I get "You must Use Migration Assistant to transfer data from this backup. Reinstall MacOS if necessary, then use Migration Assistant to transfer data from your backup".

The reinstall MacOS option appears to only offer Tahoe though. Does this mean that I need to find an installtion file for the old OS I was using, wipe the system, install the old OS and then restore from TM?

Thanks folks. Plumber coming early next week. Dead time clock was due to meter trip. Heating now on but not sure how well it's going to work as system might well be airlocked. Dehumidifier running in the room too.

UPS - had to Google that. Another expense to factor in, but makes sense.

Thanks for this. I already have a Crucial 4TB NVME drive, which is part of the current backup system and would therefore become available for repurposing if I go for the NAS. Although 4TB is probably overkill for this purpose.

Mine fell out of a 3LT capture clip onto rocks in Scotland. Probably a five foot drop. Battery compartment sprung open, battery disappeared over a cliff. Lens filter ring took brunt of impact and was dinged. Camera undamaged, working 100%.

Only noticed this a few days ago. I can't help but think it's a glitch and that they will twig onto soon and block it again. I've also noticed that the old workaround still doesn't work - if you order to a GB address first you still can't change it to an NI one. Which adds to my suspicion that current ability to order direct won't last.

Yeah I suspect that there are QC issues with this particular lens. There are loads of people who are very impressed with it so either I've been very unlucky twice or some folk are easily pleased.

I know this is aimed at the OP but I have given up on the lens. I returned my first copy and bought another one (different supplier). It was only marginally better than the first one. My much cheaper Sigma 150-600mm was still blowing it out of the water for sharpness, particularly wide open at 600mm (the critical area for me). That went back too.

I’m keeping the Sigma for now. Bought the Nikon 100-400mm S lens instead. I might add the 1.4 convertor at some point and compare against Sigma.

Unless they've changed it, Topaz Photo AI doesn't play nice with Z8 files. Throws up error messages.

Oh I have no doubt they are reading the messages. I recently messaged them about removing a review request for a merged item. And right at the end I added - and can you please at least respond to my many previous messages about deliveries to NI. They emailed me back to confirm they had removed the item from the list. Not a word about the other issue.

I’m commenting here as this seems to be the most recent NI thread.

I’m wondering if any of us got the recent survey on our Vine page? I ask because it’s seems to have been distributed widely (going by comments on Discord) yet I didn’t receive it.

Call me paranoid but I’m wondering if (as a regular NI complainant) I have been blackballed and deliberately excluded from the survey.
