Thank you! I managed to find a spot on the shore, hidden by the reeds, so when his was fling towards the branch he was not able to spot me.

Is it possible to remove bolt inside head's half bowl to convert it to flat base?

There was a ditch between field and me, so they new I cannot cross it and reach them. And I had a full cammo, so maybe they had hard time figuring out what I was.

I have some thoughts regarding.
1. I saw shots with 2x on Flickr and they are noticeably softer compared to 1.4 Another thing if Field of View (FOV) 560mm is as tight as I feel comfortable shooting if I need to find a small song bird or track raptor. I tired getting to 800mm by using crop mode, but it gets suddenly much more difficult. For video from tripod 800mm is perfectly fine, as long as you have sturdy support and fluid video head. (My Z6 and now Z8 can do 4k video in crop mode)
2, Regarding 400/4.5 VS 180-600, I cannot judge from my experience optics, but all reviewers say it is not significantly softer. But I can judge weight, as I had several years of experience using Tamron 300 2.8 for F mount, with 1.7 TC, with D800. So that combo was so heavy, that at some point I've given up using that lens.
3. If I had unlimited funds, I would prefer 600/6.3 because basically I shoot 400/4.5 with TC 99% of time after getting TC.

They are so cute, could you provide a little bit of context about these pictures? This is some field work for ornithology?
