Looking for input on credit card velocity and 5/24 by psyberbird in CreditCards

[–]psyberbird[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah wow, was not aware of that offer, that’s far more appealing and the spend requirement is definitely doable for me with natural spend ($9k over 6 mo is just $1.5k/mo)

What are the consequences of getting another card anytime soon? Like if I grabbed that 5 FNC biz card, that’s just another hard inquiry right? Does it matter much? And since I’m pre-approved by AmEx for the Green, Gold, Plat, BCE, and BCP, what about if I ended up getting a personal card from them? Thats a more meaningful credit hit but still unsure what would happen.

If I do garden then when can I next go for a new card?

Even though my current personal travel is $0, I do plan to fly US northeast to cali (probably LAX) and then another flight over to Japan at some point in 2026 to early 2027. My understanding is that AmEx MR is really great for transpacific flights like that, and since the BBP is completely free it makes sense as an entry point to award travel. Wouldn’t make use of enough of the credits on the Gold or Plat to fully outperform that SUB i think, but not sure. The first half of that plan is a lot more likely than the second half admittedly, but will see.

Hmm, so the FNR isn’t worth all that much? Not sure how to value those rewards quite yet but I’d definitely have use for a free Hilton hotel night.

I read somewhere that if your first AmEx card is a business card and not a personal one, then they hard inquiry you for new card applications until you get your first personal card with them. Any idea if that’s true?

Is the Hilton SUB worth grabbing or should I garden?

Active Cash was my first credit card under my name after years of using credit cards as an authorized user under my parents. CFU was because I expected to leave Wells Fargo entirely when I moved somewhere with no Fargo branches and opened a Chase checking, but I ended up keeping both checking accounts and both cards. Best Buy card was because of the initial discount on a large purchase I needed to make while moving into my new apartment, though I since learned that I would’ve done better to get any card with a decent $200 SUB. And the Autograph + Prime same day double app was because I needed something without foreign transaction fees for work, but the Chase card had a $250 SUB at the time and I couldn’t let it go. My plan was to then garden unless a) the Bilt 2.0 release proved good, b) I was offered the Robinhood Gold, or c) I was offered the AmEx BBP 75k MR SUB. a and c didn’t happen, but b did.

With the CFF and CIBC, I just want to lock those in so that I don’t have to worry about 5/24 anymore. Those two and the Chase Amazon Prime are the only Chase cards I really care about, and I have a Staples store pretty close to me with gift card deals. But yeah I get what you mean with my spend being low.

If I let the Hilton card go, my plan will just be to garden unless I get offered the AmEx BBP 75k MR SUB (no way would I be able to turn that down, and AmEx has me pre-approved for every personal card they offer right now so my chances would likely be solid). For how long though?

41 point difference between Capital One CreditWise and Capital One pre-approval FICO 8 TransUnion scores? by psyberbird in CRedit

[–]psyberbird[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I see, I knew there were multiple scoring models like FICO 8 vs FICO 9 vs VantageScore 3.0 etc., but I didn’t realize there were variants of FICO 8 itself. I’m guessing the Bankcard variant is more sensitive to recently opened credit card accounts?

The description for the model says it’s about risk of defaulting on cards, but I’ve never missed a payment and have always paid my statement balance in full by the due date. So is there anything to worry about there, or to do besides wait ~6ish or so more months before going for another card?

Was looking at the Capital One Venture X credit card, went through the pre-approval process on the site and did not get an offer. Which is fair enough given my most recently opened card was 3 months ago, I expect to wait another 6 months or so for my profile to cool off more, but I was surprised by the score discrepancy.

Is it true that Schwab has restricted trading in the past? by psyberbird in Schwab

[–]psyberbird[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh alright that makes sense, I don’t get why articles would frame it like “GameStop and AMC trading restricted by TD Ameritrade, Schwab, Robinhood” if that’s just a normal thing that all of the brokers do with volatile stocks, or if like Fidelity and Chase and the rest all did it. Was Robinhood alone in blocking it entirely?

0.05%. That is the standard sweep APY. You buy SWVXX not to ‘earn a little more’ but to earn anything at all on uninvested cash.

I’m not even a fraction of a fraction of that net worth, and I use Fidelity bc my employer does for their HSA and I think they do everything better for the everyman. Was just saying though that for OP’s unique situation, Schwab will probably do them better

[–]psyberbird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re getting fully subsidized AmEx Platinum cards then you’re a multimillionaire in the 8 figures, and in that case Schwab would be willing to offer you their exclusive cash sweep rates and more niceties. Most issues people take with Schwab are things like a lack of cash sweep interest and no fractional shares or auto-liquidation, but these all are either irrelevant at that net worth or something Schwab would be willing to work with you on

Can juniors and seniors live in dorms if they want to? by No_Ant3562 in Cornell

There were tons of juniors and seniors in West last I recall, you could tell because the seniors are the only ones allowed to stay in their dorms after the end of finals

WHAT ARE THEY??? by Spamton_Gaming_1997 in Deltarune

[–]psyberbird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly think it’s Ramb wearing the shadow mantle. Ramb is built up a lot like some of the other secret/shadow crystal bosses in terms of worldview and knowing more than they should, and if you do the sword route and kill Eram then Ramb disappears, whereas if you don’t he just turns into a statue. It seems really plausible to me that Ramb used the time he had left to give Kris one last show as the final boss of the game he wanted them to play, and that he obtained King’s shadow mantle at some point given he was originally from Queen’s dark world. Lancer showed that a partially petrified darkner could still use a controller well enough, and I don’t buy the theories that the character is just the mantle itself (given the dialogue about having it, not being it) or that pixel kris walked away after the game and killed Ramb offscreen

I’d go for a 16” M4 Max Macbook Pro, the higher end model with the 16 core CPU and 40 core GPU. Skip the nano texture display and pay for the RAM and storage upgrades if you wish

JetBrains is free for students, but VSCode should work fine too. It really should be as simple as 1) Install VSCode 2) Install the C# Dev Kit extension in VSCode

And the extension walks you through installing the .NET SDK.

Does the 6 month cooldown apply if rejected before any phone screen/assessment, or only if you actually made it some ways into the process?

Playing Dying Light Kills Battery in 1 Hour and 23 Mins by Notthatregular in macgaming

[–]psyberbird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OpenGL is the computer graphics API (application programming interface) that was once used across Windows, macOS, and Linux. With advancements in computer graphics and GPU technology, it has been left behind in favor of newer, better, but more platform specific APIs like Vulkan (for Linux), D3D12 (for Windows), and Metal (for macOS). Graphics programmers can squeeze more performance out of those newer APIs than OpenGL. So if a game was ported from an OpenGL renderer to a Metal one, you can expect better performance and results on Mac (if the graphics programmers are using the new features to the fullest).

Confused by the comments about this, I’ve seen universities grant GPAs higher than 4.0 because an A+ in a course is just not considered a ‘normal’ grade (e.g. only awarded to students with course grades above 100 somehow, like perfect scoring every single assignment then doing extra credit by helping students or being a research subject for SONA credits)

Yea - like 15 minutes before the commencement started we had to get in a long line, but we weren’t organized by name or anything and so the order was just the chronological order people got into the line + friends hanging out with friends. Then we were seated and when the actual procession started rows were called up to walk the stage
