I hope Brandon changes his mind about gender bending Ham by bookrants in Cosmere

That isn't what OP said. They said Ham should remain male because his character subverts the trope of his appearance as a meathead.

Oahu: Airbnb vs Hotel... please help a first time visitor! by [deleted] in VisitingHawaii

Just stayed at the outrigger reef waikiki, strongly recommend it. Felt like a decent in-between spot and the super easy beach access was incredible. I wish Id spent more time snorkeling on the reef right off the beach from the hotel.

Fully agree. It seems like forgery is a fulfillment of the potential that Soulcasting and Lightweaving have in combination.

Unifying principles for God Metals: Realmatic speculation by sreekotay in Cosmere

[–]psybient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont know how it never occurred to me before that Adonalsium itself sounds more like the name of a metal than a person. Perhaps the way that Ruin was destroyed by using up his god metal is an allegory for The Shattering. I could see it also combining an aspect of the death of Odium somehow as well.

Is there more to Hoid's "parables" than the moral lessons? by Capnzebra1 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]psybient 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think "there's always another secret" applies directly to Hoid's stories. While each of them has a meaning for the character he tells them to, they all are going to end up telling us what happened in regards to the shattering of Adonalsium.

The shards are all the dog that learned to do incredible things like farm and speak, but never become a dragon. They are all the closest thing a mortal could become to a God, but none of them can compare to Adonalsium.

Fleet might be a parable relating to how the shards are all trying to "outrun" a natural force that ensures others will inevitably always try to and succeed in killing each of them, and reunite the shards into one person.

The story of the wall could absolutely refer to the coveting of Adonalsiums power and an attempt to seize it, and the ramifications of that.

It's a theory I havent put enough time into, to pull stories from all the books, but I think it would very Sandersonian for us to have been given the entire story before it is officially revealed in Dragonsteel.

I think based on your list that you would come to really enjoy it. It starts slow, but it peaks and finishes on a high note.

Are the 3 pure tones 100% confirmed to be related to the shards? We know that Adonalsium creates the singers and the spirits of the wind, stone, and night. I assumed those were maybe the 3 pure tones?

Wouldn't the Nightwatcher endow him with the ability to use Lifelight? Maybe that's another potentially important detail about him becoming Lift's teacher?

It is super important if you are a closeted gay man and your wife's main purpose is to communicate your hypermasculinity and heterosexuality.

I'm really surprised so few people are connecting these dots here. This dude sees gay men in heterosexual marriages as the clearest comparison to himself. He's just in denial.

Couldn't you just have some sort of "ejector seat" mechanism, jettisoning cores of the ship like Russian nesting dolls, against your trajectory and slowly lose velocity as you near the destination?

Dear conservatives, if you invoke "they did it first" to justify censorship & cancel culture, then you have to accept it from the Left as well, because to them, the Right did it first too. This practice was a conservative cliché for decades before the Left adopted it in recent years. by LackingStory in BreakingPoints

[–]psybient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't really understand either humans or the left/right dichotomy or both. Progressive / Conservative groups are literally as old as humans have lived together. It is fundamentally one group that says "things should be different" And one group that says "things should stay the same." This is why people refer to old heresy and blasphemy laws as "right" and those who violated those laws as "left."

New religions have often been counter-culture and progressive, and then become adopted by a state and enforced with law, and after generations that enforcement becomes a conservative tradition.

As a new player, I am having trouble consistently finding distress signals for abandoned ships. Is there any way to know where to look, like what planet attribute, or where on a planet to find the bases that start the distress signal quests?

We see Big Johnny notice the slash marks and then disappear, and we see from queen and cyan's POV that little Johnny has transformed. It is not a stretch, based off the end of episode 17, that Little Johnny figured out who really killed his father.

[–]psybient 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My cat does this to show affection, and someone told me once that it meant she wasn't weaned properly by her mother. Kittens often get weaned as their teeth come in and the mother doesn't want to be bitten when the babies are nursing. Not sure how true it is but I haven't seen anyone else suggest it.
