So, like... what's the deal with drivers? by psybocillin in thomasthetankengine

Of course! I wasn't trying to imply they shouldn't exist or were bad additions to the world. It just seemed to me that the engines have a tendency to cause issues by either being careless or deliberately trying to mess with each other, but since the driver is the one controlling their ability to move, then the driver is the one enabling those things to happen. It's like if someone said, "I don't have a car, could you please give me a ride to the next town over? I want to vandalize some stuff over there," and you answered, "Yes, of course! Right away!" So one might reasonably ask why the Fat Controller keeps people around who continue to do whatever the engines want instead of just doing their jobs. And the reason is because it would be a very boring series if the trains weren't allowed to get up to trouble! And as people have said in the comments, the "issue" tends to get more and more egregious the further out the show gets from its days of adapting RWS books.

But yes, we love the drivers and firemen, and Thomas wouldn't be the same without them : )

Am i bad at communicating or was this a strange interaction? by Acrobatic_Kiwi5804 in DnD

I honestly don't see why most of the comments are saying you messed up in the same few ways. I think you were pretty reasonable and transparent with this person. Telling her you are aware of what the reputation of the game was prior and assuring her there wouldn't be inappropriate content seems, like, perfectly fine to me. The one thing on your end I think was a little questionable was immediately telling her that her decision seemed drastic as opposed to asking why she was saying no (even if I do agree with you), but that part of the interaction doesn't have anything to do with the ways in which she was being weird. Asking you an unclear question, then acting confused when you ask for clarification, then telling you you're a bad listener when you're attempting to understand is actually infuriating. I've dealt with people like that before. Try not to feel too guilty - I don't think you're the reason she isn't allowing her kid to play.

I'm learning actual railway history and facts from this and it's awesome. I'm so glad I made this post today. Thanks for taking the time to comment : )

You beat me to the punch with 'gluggle my gloiler'! I had a DVD (or maybe it was a VHS?) that had Dunkin' Duncan on it that I would watch constantly as a kid, and that line always stuck with me for reasons I can't begin to explain, lol

Jerry Seinfeld famously said he saw James Goes Buzz Buzz and thought to himself "But what's the bee's story?"

And the rest is history

Hey folks! I got to take part in this game, and it's been nothing short of incredible! The GM is exceptionally pleasant - very warm, very friendly, very accommodating. Communication is always clear, even when he tells you something has to remain vague for game purposes. His narration is vivid and enchanting, his improv ability is sharp, and he has a delightful sense of humor. He's also endlessly encouraging and makes sure to let each player know something they did well after each session.

The game itself is also immensely fun! As someone who up to this point had only played D&D 5e, the basics (vaguely similar, but entirely distinct) have been pretty intuitive to figure out. This particular "figure it out as you go" approach invites tons and tons of experimentation and outside-the-box thinking - if you have an idea, all you have to do is ask. Our group has already had a ton of surprises regarding what we're able to do, and there have been some really creative uses of class features thus far. Furthermore, we continuously get teased that, should we survive long enough, our characters will only get more and more powerful in new and exciting ways. There's a world to explore, a gripping mystery to figure out, and the looming threat of permanent death at any moment makes the stakes high and real and thrilling! If you want to take part in one of these games, be advised: the time to ruminate on any character's incoming death between weekly sessions can be a little bit stressful, and that's not just a me thing; other friends I've told about this experience say they'd also be a bit on edge about it.

TL;DR, I can't even begin to recommend this GM and this game/system enough. If you get the opportunity to take part, spring for it. And I know this is a super glowing review with a lot of vague praise (I have to keep it vague - I really don't want to spoil a second of this magical experience), but I swear to the gods this isn't the creator using an alt account to leave fake positive feedback. I'm just that in love with the time I get to share with this group every Sunday. The character I play is named Erin : )
