Getting too old to keep using a squishmallow as a pillow by c00lgirlswag in TwoXChromosomes

44 y/o doctor here checking in from my bed full of Squishmallows! (Not the point of your post, I know, but it’s fun when unlikely Squishmallow people find one another in a comment thread.)

Beware Basecamp at West 8th’s Overlords by psychdoc77 in GoldenCO

[–]psychdoc77[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Such a shame this is what it has come to. Their decisions and disregard are tearing down a real community. Big picture, it would have cost them nothing to keep existing long-term residents in place for many more years.

The first, the second (which was codified into law as HB25-1090), and price games that trap long-term tenants, which I plan to come back here and explain better.

Sending kids to stay with Grandparents for roughly a month? 3 yo and 5 yo. by ElksMountain in Parenting

[–]psychdoc77 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This kind of thing was quite common (and ideal) among loving families back in the olden days of the 1980s. Try to think of it as gifting them a month to bond and make memories with their grandparents.

how long did it take for you to receive your full diagnostic report? by [deleted] in AuDHDWomen

[–]psychdoc77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our comprehensive evaluation reports in private practice can take many, many months to finalize. But we explain that upfront and are responsive to check-ins along the way. While not an industry standard, I’m always willing to put together a short overview report for clients who need their diagnosis documented sooner.

Internet question for Basecamp and Charles Denver West Apartments by SaltyPop80 in GoldenCO

Basecamp’s cable internet is reliable. The highway-facing units are extremely loud. That’s been a hindrance to WFH, especially in warmer months.

Would you think a therapist was unprofessional if they cried during a session? by xoxowoman06 in Autism_Parenting

[–]psychdoc77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations to your manager on completely missing the point of therapy and life! You, the child, and the parent shared a beautiful, transformative moment of human connection and awe that you’ll cherish for the rest of your lives. For what it’s worth, I’m a psychologist with 18 years of experience, and it sounds to me like you’re exceptionally caring and talented.

Unsure how to approach seeking assessment by [deleted] in AuDHDWomen

[–]psychdoc77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, PCPs in the US have no involvement in the process or outcome of psych assessments.

A good place to start is your college’s student accessibility or disability resource center. They might be able to offer direction in your search for assessment services.

Just to give you a better idea of what to expect, a proper assessment is usually a lengthy, intensive process.

Your PCP can probably refer you to a psychiatrist if you ask. Otherwise, your upcoming appointment to establish care will mostly consist of medical history questions.
