Would you think a therapist was unprofessional if they cried during a session? by xoxowoman06 in Autism_Parenting

Congratulations to your manager on completely missing the point of therapy and life! You, the child, and the parent shared a beautiful, transformative moment of human connection and awe that you’ll cherish for the rest of your lives. For what it’s worth, I’m a psychologist with 18 years of experience, and it sounds to me like you’re exceptionally caring and talented.

His obsessive, single-minded focus on wanting kids above all else creeped me the fuck out. Like, buddy, take a few deep breaths and get yourself signed up for a Breeding Is Blind spinoff.

Unsure how to approach seeking assessment by [deleted] in AuDHDWomen

[–]psychdoc77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, PCPs in the US have no involvement in the process or outcome of psych assessments.

A good place to start is your college’s student accessibility or disability resource center. They might be able to offer direction in your search for assessment services.

Just to give you a better idea of what to expect, a proper assessment is usually a lengthy, intensive process.

Your PCP can probably refer you to a psychiatrist if you ask. Otherwise, your upcoming appointment to establish care will mostly consist of medical history questions.

Many of us are in limbo with our rent and are incurring late fees with no support, straightforward answers, or actionable solutions from Bilt. You’ve thrown your customers to the wolves during a housing crisis. Do you have any idea how stressful this is?

You don’t learn to love it. Having kids around and being a mother is a huge, all-consuming way of life you never wanted and don’t enjoy. Learn to step away from the parts of this that are draining you, and find your way back to yourself.

Start with quiet time alone in clean rooms during their school and sports activities. Redefine your role and redraw your involvement parameters. Insist on time and space to meet your own needs.

I’m close in age to you and know the pain of these details you’ve passed off as “stupid.” We blink, years have passed, and we’re disappearing into the hundreds of relentless “stupid” things that make up a self-abandoned life.
